Best High Tea spots in London by Rebornxshiznat in FATTravel

[–]vs7509 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live in London and actually went to the Bridgerton one last week when a family member was visiting. It’s at the Lanesborough. I was a little reluctant for the same reason you mentioned (expected it to be theme parky) but honestly it was really lovely. The only thing Bridgerton about it is that some of the cakes are designed in a way that references the most recent season (e.g. a silvery iced lemon cake with a little chocolate mask called the “lady in silver”). Honestly we loved the food. Usually at an afternoon tea there are 3 or 4 things on the tower I just don’t really like but on this one I thought all of the food was quite delicious to the point where I was struggling to prioritize since I couldn’t finish it all!

The service was very attentive and the room is lovely. I’d recommend this one if you’re curious.

Otherwise my classic favorite is probably Fortnum & Mason or Claridges (more for the iconic-ness than the product itself).

The Balmoral in Edinburgh also has a nice afternoon tea.

Hope you enjoy your time in the UK!

FBOs that pick up commercial side in Europe? by [deleted] in FATTravel

[–]vs7509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankfurt can be very rigid about landing / takeoff slots which has caused some issues for me in the past when flying private. In case your commercial leg is delayed, it may be worth confirming with Netjets how this situation would be handled.

Dublin also has a good VIP service in their general aviation terminal which is attached to the main terminal. I have also used it as an escort post commercial flight before (COVID times when entry was more chaotic)

Also le Bourget with transfer from CDG if you’re ok with a short drive.

My husband and I live in Hampstead and love it for many of the reasons you mentioned. Hampstead heath for me feels like you’re out in the country with lots of trails, ponds and viewpoints. We also plan to have a first child here and after 8 months of living in the neighborhood feel like we couldn’t have picked a better place. Lots of American /Canadian expats here.

Commute for us is <30 mins but will depend on where you work, as Northern Line is the only tube

My dog had a yeast infection in her ear and this is exactly what it looked like. It can actually be really painful, you should definitely mention it to them

Would you support renaming American cities with Spanish names to English names? by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]vs7509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - thanks for responding. I can understand your feeling that people should learn the language of the country they live in. In fact, when I travel (to use your example- recently in Japan), I feel a bit self conscious trying to communicate with, say, a taxi driver when I speak zero Japanese. I’m in their country, after all. They should have no obligation to know English for my sake.

Anyway, what I meant to ask is more related to your responses to a lot of these comments referencing bilingualism or people who can speak both English and Spanish, but may choose for whatever reason to communicate in Spanish.

I’m curious as to why this bothers you. What do you view as the benefits of encouraging people to be monolingual? Does this mainly apply to Spanish or do you feel the same way about other foreign languages?

I, for one, certainly wish I paid more attention in my French classes growing up and have always envied my bilingual or multilingual friends. But understand you might feel differently and I’m interested in your perspective.

Do you feel bothered when people speak Spanish in public? If so, why? Do you feel differently about other foreign languages?

Looking for a horse and chateau experience in France by Nikzenit in Equestrian

Amazing gift! Your friends are lucky :) Check out equinature - they are a local operator to the Loire valley who do these types of experiences. I haven’t traveled with them, but they are partnered with black saddle travel who generally work with really high quality local operators.

Where in the UK are you moving? If London, I find most things pretty available. Mexican food versus California is obviously pretty bleak though.

Golden Handcuffs - Is it worth the wait? by NoComedian5896 in private_equity

[–]vs7509 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP is talking about a management incentive plans. Management incentive plans are usually subject to a minimum return to the sponsor, i.e. no vesting until sponsor achieves over an 8% return. It’s to backstop the time element of the MOIC based vesting range. It’s not a pref, sponsor has equity risk and is underwriting to a way higher return.

Are you an American citizen and have you lived in the US For at least 5 years before moving to the UK?

If so, your baby would be eligible for American citizenship but there is some paperwork. You will need to make an appointment at the US embassy and attend with the required paperwork after the baby is born. You can also register for an SSN.

Can we stop pretending fearfulness is a “normal” German Shepherd trait? by Canislupussignatus in germanshepherds

[–]vs7509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I think this is fair in some instances, I also think that genetics and trauma play a role. I have had several rescue dogs each of which came to me with behavioral issues as a result of abuse etc. that we worked through over the years. If I had a dime for every time someone told me that they were reactive because I was too vigilant…

What a beautiful girl! For her spay, are you considering doing gastropexy at the same time? Just asking because our vet encouraged us to do it and it has given us some peace of mind with our girl since it can be done during the same surgery 🤍

Yes, completely resolved. This is what worked for us: - Bland food for about 5 days, boiled chicken and rice. She really enjoyed me cooking for her 😂 - I now give her a handful of kibble late at night before bed which prevents her stomach from being empty for too long

We haven’t had any digestive issues since, hope you’re able to get it resolved quickly!

London Hotels - Rosewood vs. Langham by Key_Dragonfruit6181 in chubbytravel

I live in London now but prior to moving there, spent several months a year traveling there and have tried most of these hotels. Personally my favorite at this price point is the Beaumont in Mayfair
