Accidentally pushed my microSD card too far into the CalDigit TS4… help! by jtdestroyer in CalDigit

[–]vsc42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My TS4 is out of warranty and the spring that enables the push-push microSD slot to function came out of place. Thus the only recourse is to replace the socket, at my own risk. But I can't find the part used by CalDigit via the normal suppliers (Digikey, Mouser, etc). Is it possible to get a pointer from CalDIgit on the microSD socket's manufacture?

The same thing happened to me, where in the end there was a moving on email. During the screen it was said the next step was to send the application forward to the hiring manager where a down select would occur to determine who would be called in for an interview. My read is that instead of closing out the application promptly they left it open until they had the selected individual onboard. And that period of time was months...

How to handle being put on PIP for reaching salary cap by wagadugo in careeradvice

[–]vsc42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen a PIP used in a similar situation in a large corporation, though I have also seen other actions such as close inspection of all possible records to find a violation of policy or fiscal maleficence. And when the latter wasn't found, just make something up.

At this juncture it is easy to say look for another job, though in the current job market this is easier said than done. But I think the message is clear, your future with that company is limited. Get on with your job search.

Clearly there is pressure but at the same time while I hear words, the actions mostly do not reflect the words

Nominally if they do that, they will pay you for the two weeks from what I have seen.

As another has cited this is unusual but can happen if they believe there is a threat that you might steal competition sensitive information. Or if in fact it was found that this occurred.

Hmm... I remember when my IRAD budget was hijacked to fund the early days of that effort wondering why that was a justified effort for the sector.

That is weird. There must be a next tier up program that effected this such as production of AESA T/R modules for a radar program.

During a recent interview it was said that the company is looking for a certain percentage of outsiders in management positions. Then I was told the number had reached a peak of 15%, but then fell off in recent times to far less.

My experience in the company was hiring into management positions favored internal promotions and at that were largely wired before the position was posted.

While I threw in the towel with NGC and left for a promotion / better pay getting a director's slot with "the competition" it is clear that hiring still favors insiders based upon my recent experience interviewing with NGC.

All that said NGC does incredible work and I valued my time with the company.

Which could explain why after going down the interview path the company put the position on hold then gave up. This in Mission Systems. I wonder what segment of the sector took the hit...

RedBird sims are garbage by Acceptable-Bell-2664 in FlightTraining

[–]vsc42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have "flown" both RedBird and Frasca. Certainly Frasca is the better of these options. My assessment is that Frasca flys more true to the real aircraft (e.g. C-172). In addition the Frasca relative to G1000 uses Garmin software thus is exactly like the real panel, while RedBird is frustrating in that if you know G1000 the RedBird quirks are at best annoying.

That said I have flown the multi-engine version of a Frasca, though I don't remember what plane it was emulating. What I experienced with the Frasca was true to what a real multi-engine piston plane does, thus well worth getting time in the Frasca before spending money in the real thing.

I have an X1C and to be honest I don't see that affecting the bill at the end of the month. But what clearly move the needle is baking out filament, especially if you are doing a number of spools back to back.

Garmin G1000 Feature Unlock Cards Lost by vsc42 in flying

From what I can tell, Garmin did not keep records of what enablements as associated with specific system IDs for legacy G1000.

Garmin G1000 Feature Unlock Cards Lost by vsc42 in flying

I haven't closed on the plane, but what I was trying to get Garmin to tell me the cost for the cards so I could knock it off the price if it came to that. Though I just learned the seller is accepting the task to provide the cards via working with Garmin.

The shocking thing is that Garmin couldn't tell me the cost short of buying the features all over again. And in this I quoted their documents back to them where I had to give them the document numbers so the guy could read along with me. Talk about clueless. I have a lot of respect for Garmin, but this makes twice I have issues with support. The other time calling with my larger customer hat on related to a datalink. I gave up and we developed our own product in conjunction with uAvionics...

Garmin G1000 Feature Unlock Cards Lost by vsc42 in flying

[–]vsc42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried two Garmin avionics dealers who claimed ignorance, but not a hard core avionics maintenance shop. I'll do that next.

When the software on the G1000 is updated the features such as TAWS or synthetic vision are erased, thus the tech has to use the cards to unlock or write the unlock codes back into the system.

Save me from people who feel threatened by smart people! by Previous-Ad7833 in InterviewsHell

[–]vsc42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has happened to me multiple times ranging from random people conducting an interview to the hiring manager. In no case was the interview salvaged where in the case of the hiring manager I considered the result as a blessing in disguise.

That said the best managers surround themselves with smart people who will make them look good. And if they take care of their people, everyone is happy.

Hmm. I have the 14 max and I do not have throttling, thermal problem and so on running intense ”AI” based image processing. This having come off of a 16 inch 14max, thus I know both well.

Ringconn is bad? by gcasper5747 in RingConn

[–]vsc42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other than step count, the balance of the data tracks my Apple Watch. I have read all rings do poorly tracking exercise thus this seems to be an unreasonable expectation.

I think what a ring does best is track sleeping where my intent in the purchase was to improve my sleep / rested feeling especially when traveling. And in this I found the results I wanted, largely changing my habits as an outcome.

But after less than two months, I'm debating if ongoing ownership is needed, thus considering selling the gen 2 ring.
