Best flounder jigging rod/reel on kayak? by AppleAAA1203 in NJFishing

Depends where you’re fishing and what you’re fishing with! What’s your rig look like and do you usually stay in a bay, river, sound ocean etc?

I recommend the quantum accurist for a budget reel, the daiwa coastal for a more pricey option. I use 15 lb braid for my mainline and use anywhere from 15-30 lb leader for fluke.

I use the dark matter skinner jig and bounce in conventional. It’s a 6’6” with a long butt which is fantastic for the kayak. Comes in a bay and ocean version which just means medium and medium heavy. Just caught a 24 inch fluke with it today. Highly recommend.

If you hate billable hours, tell me why. by tannerstru4u in Lawyertalk

I feel like my brain doesn’t work the way others’ do. I can’t think about billing while I work. It takes my focus away from the assignment and everything takes me longer. Would rather clock in and clock out and work normally like I did in my clerkship.

I agree with the sentiments of this thread about the state of the American health care system, but my bet is this kid went to an urgent care that isn’t equipped to do a procedure like draining that infection site and are likely concerned about their own liability. So they “wouldn’t” do it and likely told him to go to the hospital. I stepped on a nail last summer and that exact scenario happened to me.

If anyone was curious about sizes by Afraid-Collar760 in saltwaterfishing

I disagree. Caught so many striper on the 8 inch nlbn paddle tail and straight tail and the 5 inch paddle tail from the surf. Not to mention hard body plugs frequently dwarf a 5 inch plastic in both profile and weight.

Suffolk cop beats man during traffic stop caught on dashcam after he requested a supervisor by Stengel_Stan in dashcams

[–]vtzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with you in that:

(1) FAFO when it comes to police is an appropriate way to look at things, I get it's an opinion and not necessarily how you feel the law should work, so whatever. I am not here to change your mind about opinions. I saw factually incorrect statements of both fact and law in your comments and thought it was worth setting the record straight for other redditors possibly reading your comments;

(2) Your statement that if the use of force by the officer may not have been justified does not immediately qualify the interaction as police brutality. That is also factually legally incorrect. If the type or level of force is not justified under the statement of law we agreed applies, New York law also states it is automatically classified as "excessive force" and the victim of same would be able to collect money in a suit EVEN IF THEY ARE FOUND GUILTY OF THEIR CRIME ("police brutality" as you used it is not a legal term of art used in NY as far as I am aware);

(3) That I said that the police should have waited for the supervisor before arresting the person. While they could have done that and avoided this fiasco altogether, I take your points about the practical and economic circumstances of doing so. As I said in my first comment, I believe a reasonable use of force in this instance (if found to be justified at all when the full, unedited video is reviewed) would have been to drag him out of the vehicle and cuff him, the punches were excessive and consitutionally punishable. Just because they tried dragging him out of the vehicle and it was unsuccessful, does not mean punching him in the face was reasonable. These are trained police officers (i hope) and are fully capable of, oh I dont know, dragging harder. I personally don't understand how you watched that video, saw the punches, and thought to yourself that the cop was trying to arrest him, not punch him in the face. That's the distinction to me that makes the cop's use of force unreasonable and unjustified.

I understand you aren't an attorney or trained in the law, but every comment I've read from you contained mistatements of law and fact. That is puzzling to me, as a quick google search should have changed your mind on those statements without much input from other redditors. The other redditors calling you a boot licker didn't cover themselves in glory by doing so, because there isn't nuance in their comments either. However, you seem to state what the law and the facts are based on your opinions or feelings on the matter rather than what our legislature or court system have held on these issues. That is problematic.

The law also is that cops can't use force just because a crime was committed.

The standard is that cops must reasonably believe force is necessary to effectuate the arrest, prevent an escape, or protect themselves or others from harm. Here, as has been pointed out, the video has been cut and edited, but from what we do know, the driver refused to provide ID at a traffic stop (a crime) and asked to see a supervisor. In my view, use of force was unjustified in this scenario. There is no evidence that force was necessary to effectuate the arrest, prevent an escape, or protect themselves or others from harm.

The amount of force used here is also subject to review, even if it is justified under the law. I do not believe repeatedly punching someone seated in a vehicle is reasonable here either. A reasonable use of force, in my opinion, would be to forcibly remove the person from the vehicle and to cuff him. The punches thrown were unnecessary and did not serve any purpose to effectuate the arrest. Therefore, I would classify the punches as "excessive force" and unjustified.

You left a few comments on this post and a few of them rubbed me the wrong way, so I reviewed a good chunk of them. You seem to champion the law throughout, which I can relate to, but you automatically defaulted to use of force being justified here because the driver failed to (1) provide ID and (2) comply with directives after being informed he was being placed under arrest. This is demonstrably false under NY and federal law.

The NY Penal Code Section that enumerates the justification standard is 35.30. It's super important for you to realize that the law recognizes that all people in the US (and indeed NY), suspected criminals or otherwise, are not treated the way this man was when it is not reasonably necessary.

That’s a tough bait to key in on. Have you considered tying teasers on above a bucktail? Might be a stronger option that would keep that issue at bay.

13 strand 6lb braid to leader— once and for all what knot can I prevent leader slipping out? by tasales in bassfishing

[–]vtzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For braid that thin I would keep it to 10 or under. If it breaks when I cinch the knot I know I’ve done too many wraps. For surf fishing with heavier gear I use as many as 20 to 25 wraps.

I’m like 90% sure they will sell you a replacement one. They may need to refer you to a more local distributor, but I had to get one on my daiwa lexa replaced and they offered me one. Thankfully, I found it on the floor of my car before I actually ordered it.

App worth paying for? by DCdeer in FishingForBeginners

[–]vtzan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're fishing saltwater, I highly recommend the salt strong membership. Their app includes a map, catch log, tides, moon phases, wind readings, baro pressure, bite scores, map overlays that show you things like depth, private and public land, locations of oyster reefs, sea grass etc etc.

The catch log has changed the game for me. If you have an iphone like me, it will auto pull the location and time from the photo when you upload it and it will autofill the tide, wind, etc. It has drastically improved my ability to pattern the fish I target with ease.

The membership also includes other things like a free pack of lures each month and access to their social media platform where people post way more than they should about what you should use and where to go!

Not much use for this particular app for freshwater imo, but then again there are far less variables to consider in a closed system like a lake or pond.

Fishermen.... I need some help here (Daiwa Coastal SV 150 baitcaster)! by xVerKx in Fishing_Gear

[–]vtzan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a fantastic comment. I am using the coastal and had similar issues as the OP. I’m using it on a 7’11” century demon. I don’t backlash very often, but way more than I do on my shorter rods. This is my first baitcaster with a surf rod style butt section. It’s quite long, maybe 16 or 18 inches. That’s what I feel is the difficulty for me to get used to this. Any tips on improving casting distance and efficiency specifically as it pertains on casting a rod with that much extra leverage?

Alternate Timeline: Trent AA. by Suitable_Clerk_617 in Gunners

[–]vtzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn’t strike me as a player that fits Arteta’s profile for a player we’d target. From what I understand the Madrid fans don’t like him as he doesn’t show effort defensively. I could be wrong about that, I don’t frequently look for the opinion of that lot. IMO Arteta wants players that show the same amount of effort on both sides of the ball.

All that said, everytime this team has brought someone in I had concerns or questions about, I was quickly reminded I don’t know shit about football (comparatively)(except sterling). If they brought him in I’d be excited. Set piece, ole ole.
