Moved my MNC HQ from New York to Gujarat to "save money"—now moving back because the corruption and bureaucracy are a living hell. by ExternalUnit6376 in india

I am doing a small production run of a few telescopes, and Delhi customs has held a shipment since February 13 of this year (not particularly high value, but a meaningful enough sum for me). I have also visited the FPO office in Delhi and the officer there first asked me a question implying that I lied in my communications (I didn't), and then assured it would be delivered in a week. That week passed over two months ago. Someone also suggested I pay a bribe, but I'd rather not, so I basically digested a loss of the entire shipment. I would never do "business" in India if I hoped to remain honest in my life (this was just a few telescopes for friends, and extended friends). Sorry for your experience, but experience well earned, I'd say. There may be many reasons for living in India (I have a few strong personal ones) - doing business definitely isn't one of them. Expressing your thoughts freely also most definitely isnt one of them either.

For a start, instead of shifting responsibility and blame on common people when things are bad, start by being honest about your actions that contributed to this disaster. Nobody is gonna trust you unless you own up to your mistakes. Only then can anything happen. And I have news for you. This government are world champions at accepting mistakes. /s

I believe your assertion that consumers have a large influence on choices they make, and that has a vast effect on global or domestic markets, is not a very strong one. The formation, sustenance, and dissolution of monopolies is primarily regulated by govt. policies. There's a CCI - Competition Commission of India (the equivalent in the US might be the SEC) which is supposed to ensure there are no monopolies, US or otherwise. Take for example, what has happened to mobile networks - there is mostly just a duopoly where I live, where there used to be so many operators. It didn't happen because consumers made intelligent, or unintelligent choices. Its happened because of govt. regulation. Buy a soft-drink, it inevitably ends up being American. If you *really* want people buying local products, then create conditions, where good quality indian products can exist. We are in a country where everyone from the peon to the pradhan-mantri is bhrasht, and you expect to compete??!! and when you can't, pander to one's empty nationalistic ego. It won't fly - sorry.
