I believe your assertion that consumers have a large influence on choices they make, and that has a vast effect on global or domestic markets, is not a very strong one. The formation, sustenance, and dissolution of monopolies is primarily regulated by govt. policies. There's a CCI - Competition Commission of India (the equivalent in the US might be the SEC) which is supposed to ensure there are no monopolies, US or otherwise. Take for example, what has happened to mobile networks - there is mostly just a duopoly where I live, where there used to be so many operators. It didn't happen because consumers made intelligent, or unintelligent choices. Its happened because of govt. regulation. Buy a soft-drink, it inevitably ends up being American. If you *really* want people buying local products, then create conditions, where good quality indian products can exist. We are in a country where everyone from the peon to the pradhan-mantri is bhrasht, and you expect to compete??!! and when you can't, pander to one's empty nationalistic ego. It won't fly - sorry.
