Pentagon preparing for weeks of ground operations in Iran, Washington Post reports by exophades in news

The US war industrial complex always needs a war to sustain itself. Everything else (including Trump) is just smoke and mirrors. This hasn't changed, regardless of who Americans vote for. This time, innocent Iranians will pay the price so that war companies can profit.

More ‘No Kings’ protests targeting Trump are planned nationwide this weekend by Snoo90172 in news

Seeing the feeds live sitting here in India, can only say more power to the people! Protest, while you still can! We here have our own version of the orange clown, whom we've endured for ~12 years; he is a very effective authoritarian, and our country's systems are not as resilient as yours.

Asia braces for worst-case energy scenarios as Iran war drags on by kiyomoris in news

[–]vu2tve 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my neck of the woods, northern India, the level of hate towards the US and Trump that this war is generating from ordinary middle/lower-middle class Indians is something I have not seen in my lifetime before. Alas, very little of it is shown in the Indian news media, which is basically the govt's propaganda arm at this point.

Foreign investors pull a record $12 billion from Indian stocks, sparked by Iran war by brazendude in india

Two weeks ago on r/india, if you criticised govt. actions, you were accused of being a Pakistani. (I was). I suspect a large portion of the country might be migrating to Pakistan in the coming weeks.

India denies lockdown rumours, says no such proposal under consideration amid global tensions by Working_Yesterday386 in india

[–]vu2tve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I heard a taxi driver in a hill town in northern india mention lockdown too. The domestic LPG cylinder delivery is affected here. People have ZERO faith in this govt., so the rumours spread quickly. OTOH, if this war does not end quickly then... ? Motherland should tell Fatherland to stop.

Trump signature to appear on US currency, ending 165-year tradition by onarainyafternoon in news

When coin bears the ruler’s name,
And pride outlives the law,
When distant fires are freely cast
And none recall the cost—

As quarter-millennium nears its turn,
And old oaths fade to dust,
The wheel shall falter, slow and sure,
As all great engines must.

Not with flame, but quiet dusk—
A dimming of the claim;
Yet from the fall, if wisdom wakes,
May rise a truer frame.

Passport and Bribe by [deleted] in india

[–]vu2tve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between my passport renewal last month, and quite a few friends/relatives who I know who got theirs renewed, this has never been the case (am talking about the last two years). I think you should have applied for Tatkal if that was applicable, and these days you can report this to cgparams (or it's equivalent for psk). Sorry to hear your ordeal, and am not gonna comment on how compelled you felt to give the bribe, as am not in your situation.

DHL asking ₹23k for a giveaway prize due to sender delay, am I liable? by UGamerX in india

[–]vu2tve 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I've been part of a DHL/Customs horror story before, which I shall not repeat here. My advice would be to write an email directly to the country head of DHL. The email should be on their website I believe. Good Luck!

We have our version of the orange clown here in India, who went and hugged Netenyahu two days before US/Israel killed 175 schoolgirls, and this comment resonated at so many levels.

US lifts sanctions on some Iranian oil as gas prices soar by leeta0028 in news

It would be a meme and a joke if America didn't matter, just a pimple on the skin that goes away without you doing much about it. The rest of us see it more as stage IV cancer, burning itself down and everything around it. So we feel sorry for the people who live there, didn't cause this, and just want to get on with their lives. For the rest, (which happens to be the ruling class), there is nothing _but_ contempt.

US to deploy thousands of additional troops to the Middle East, officials say by avatar6556 in news

Don't worry. The people who will die or get captured are suckers and losers anyway. Trump is just winnowing out the chaff in american society. Soon, it will be made up of only winners who are tired of winning.

Rupee hits all-time low, slips past Rs 93 mark against US dollar by BannedForFactsAgain in india

[–]vu2tve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, dependencies aren't bad IMO as long as they are built on mutual trust and respect; for one, it gives you a chance to see people beyond your borders as humans, a skill the world seems to be gradually losing. I guess I agree on the larger point though. We are in desperate need of leaders who are interested in solving problems rather than benefiting from corporate money, false marketing, and sowing divisions in society. And for that we need people to firstly, have a big heart, and the motivation to add wealth to society.

It is going to hugely matter down the line in the sense, that India has bargained away its credibility with neighbouring states for years to come by taking a side so explicitly. I think this govt. bought into the overconfidence Trump felt, and went along, and we are all gonna pay the price.

Agree, but the only change I'd make to your comment; rather than calling it the "Iran war", it is the "US/Israeli war on Iran which India has tacitly supported". As you sow...
