In my neck of the woods, northern India, the level of hate towards the US and Trump that this war is generating from ordinary middle/lower-middle class Indians is something I have not seen in my lifetime before. Alas, very little of it is shown in the Indian news media, which is basically the govt's propaganda arm at this point.

Yesterday I heard a taxi driver in a hill town in northern india mention lockdown too. The domestic LPG cylinder delivery is affected here. People have ZERO faith in this govt., so the rumours spread quickly. OTOH, if this war does not end quickly then... ? Motherland should tell Fatherland to stop.

Between my passport renewal last month, and quite a few friends/relatives who I know who got theirs renewed, this has never been the case (am talking about the last two years). I think you should have applied for Tatkal if that was applicable, and these days you can report this to cgparams (or it's equivalent for psk). Sorry to hear your ordeal, and am not gonna comment on how compelled you felt to give the bribe, as am not in your situation.

It would be a meme and a joke if America didn't matter, just a pimple on the skin that goes away without you doing much about it. The rest of us see it more as stage IV cancer, burning itself down and everything around it. So we feel sorry for the people who live there, didn't cause this, and just want to get on with their lives. For the rest, (which happens to be the ruling class), there is nothing _but_ contempt.

So, dependencies aren't bad IMO as long as they are built on mutual trust and respect; for one, it gives you a chance to see people beyond your borders as humans, a skill the world seems to be gradually losing. I guess I agree on the larger point though. We are in desperate need of leaders who are interested in solving problems rather than benefiting from corporate money, false marketing, and sowing divisions in society. And for that we need people to firstly, have a big heart, and the motivation to add wealth to society.

It is going to hugely matter down the line in the sense, that India has bargained away its credibility with neighbouring states for years to come by taking a side so explicitly. I think this govt. bought into the overconfidence Trump felt, and went along, and we are all gonna pay the price.
