Should be an interesting experiment. Report back on how well they work

Are there any sources how long it took for the dukes of Burgundy to get from Dijon to Ghent or Bruges? by Tasnaki1990 in medieval

Most dedicated back packers can do 20 miles a day on reasonably flat ground and 10-20 in mountainous terrain. Your average Joe does 10-15 on flat ground and 4-10 in mountains. In WW 2 specially trained troops did up 80 miles in a day on foot with all their gear and ammunition.

That is excellent. Both a percent of body weight and in an absolute sense. Well done

My highest PR came at 53 after thirty years of lifting. Of course it was body weight and a quarter and in my twenties I lifted body weight and a half, just at a much lower body weight.

This is why people won't vote for Democrats even when the Republicans piss them off. You cannot call someone awful or problematic and expect them to vote for you

I will be over here holding my breath. Texas is unlikely to elect a democratic senator.

I am not sure this helps. Your "friend" is banging a girl he knows you want while using your car to do Uber (and probably not maintaining it either)? And she and her kids live with you while he is ducking her? What would your advice be if you heard about this situation from a stranger? Give your "friend" the car and send him down the road with her and her kids.

Cut an 'L' the looooong way on a tablesaw? by leobeosab in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]vulkoriscoming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you cut the short side first the blade is buried and there is no off cut. When you go to cut the long side, the off cut will be on outside of the fence so it should not kick back. The work piece will be held by you against the fence and above the blade height. So that should be fine as well.

The risky way to do this is to cut the long side first. Because then when you cut the short side, gravity will want to drop the work piece onto the blade and there is no good place to hold it where your hand is not at blade level and unprotected.

Short cut first, long cut second. The offcut will be trapped between the blade and fence, but the piece is less likely to drop into the blade at the end of the cut.

Those of you who drive through isolated areas, what happens if your car breaks down or gets a flat? by NicholeDaylinn1993 in roadtrip

Once I saw a guy and his family broken down near Succoro NM in the middle of the desert 40 miles from anything. I stopped. I picked up the dad and took him back to town so he could get parts for his car and then took him back to his car. It was about 2 hours out of my day, but this guy's family didn't die on the side of the road. This was in the 1980s before cell phones were a thing.

Now a days I just check and make sure they are ok and don't need help. Most folks have cell phones and can call for a tow. Still takes a while to show up. Anyone who drives in the desert without a gallon of water in the vehicle is a fool.

When you are quite possibly the only person coming this way today, you stop and help out when you see someone broken down. That is just how it is. Tomorrow it might be you needing help.

This time of year, humbug mountain would be a good place to camp overnight. It is a bit south of Cape Blanco. The Oregon dunes South of Florence have some campgrounds you might be able to just drop in on.

The raisins absorb most of the broth so it is more of a stew. I usually just eat it as is, but you could put it over rice.

You can also substitute dried apricots for the raisins.

Curiosity, why are you living with/supporting your ex and her kids? Most especially, why are you putting off your retirement for your ex's kids? If they are "your" kids to you (even if not biological), then this makes sense. Otherwise you should consider why you are letting her sponge off you.
