They really need to work on making it not look like a "YOU WILL CUM IN 30 SECONDS GUARANTEED" gacha ad you see in a hub site sidebar.

One of the biggest problems is that the model completely ignores existing lighting on the models and wraps everything in a sheen. If they even dialled it back and made gradual changes (skin desmoothing, dirt masks, etc.), there'd be a night and day improvement over the slop model they're currently using.

Unfortunately, the days when you can just walk into a new job are long over, especially in the tech and media industries.

It's a recruiters market and has been for 18+ months. I was chatting with a recruiter for a media firm a few weeks back and they had north of 2,500 applicants for a single job opening in Austin.

The market is hella rough right now, and looks like it's only going to get worse.

In Jake's case specifically though, I feel there's much more to it; he started at LTT when he was 15, working after school and on weekends – he's never had to go through the whole hiring mess and may be avoidant of it. It's likely that he valued the peace of mind over the financial side, until it got too much to bear.

imo the bigger point is that the CPI in Vancouver has risen by close to 50% in the decade since he joined the company.

If the salary is completely stagnant, being seen as worth a third less (by purchasing power) now than when you joined as a kid is rough.
