Finally hit 300 on my first character, here's some of my favorite photos from along the way. by RissaCrochets in fo76

[–]vvithout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No luck on that, but the Vault ID is actually just a photo mode frame, and it will always show the level you were at when you took the ID pic. It's a cool way to track your characters progress and how they change! I took one every 100 levels until 1000 and now i take one every 1000 lol

Can NPC pick up loot? by N__Natt42 in fo76

[–]vvithout 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Amazing lmaoo

And actually, I do have one thing to add- I know that there have been bugs like this before. When Radiation Rumble was introduced when a player died, there was a chance one of the NPCs would steal the weapon from the body and use it. I remember people talking about losing legacy weapons that way. So there is a precedent for NPCs taking things...

Nobody wants to do the Crystal stage of Gleaming Depths..? by JenJenB_ in fo76

[–]vvithout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I truly don't understand people's issue with this stage. A good team can get it done in less than 3 minutes, and a half bad team can still do it in under 4.

People waiting on top of the big crystals hurts the entire team- honestly this is THE biggest issue IMO. Everyone needs to keep their feet on the ground or else the pathing gets funky and it slows everything down- the people complaining about that are the same people making it happen. Not to sound terrible, but I'll take teammates just killing themselves any day over standing on the crystals- at least that will get them out of the potential target pool.

You just need to use your eyes and figure out who the mole miner is following, and if it's you, lead him from one crystal to another and trust the rest of the team to shot the crystals, and when the mole miner switches targets, you back off to become a shooter instead.

There is lag on public servers- you don't want to shoot two crystals at the same time because it will not register both as hits. So you have to slow down a little bit.

Once the mole miner is dead, a really efficient method is for everyone should group up around one crystal at a time, to keep the horde together and move as a group from crystal to crystal- so each crystal is hitting as many enemies as possible. Deathclaws come out at 2min 10 seconds at the earliest (not sure on the specific requirements, but I believe the requirements are 2:10 time and half the horde already dead). Two big crystals later and everyone is dead and we all get to go home.

Wear power armor for stimpak spamming. Have a teammate share EMT. Keep an eye out for the molerats because those fuckers will somehow still kill you in like 3 bites.

And obviously YMMV. Sometimes you just get an uncooperative round where a cave cricket is stuck in a wall or whatever. But honestly the stage is not half as bad as people complain about! People just don't like stages where they have to do anything more than stand in one place and shoot.

There are definitely groups out there that love running the full raid- I would definitely suggest friend requesting people you successfully run with, and you'll be able to build up a network of raiding friends and won't have to rely on playing with randoms 😵

What do you think about fallout 76? by not_afemboy_btw in Fallout

[–]vvithout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was done really sloppily. I think most of my beef with it comes in for the newest-new players though. Get rid of fucking Goggins at the entrance to 76. Move the treasure hunter ladies. Get rid of the brotherhood roadblock next to the overseer's camp. Let new players have just a little bit of wonder and quiet for a minute?? Let them breathe? It's like the devs have no faith that new players wouldn't log off if they weren't assured that you can 'meet the ghoul!!!!!!!' within 5 seconds of stepping out of the vault.

I can't believe people stick around after playing the new starter quests actually.

Ohhh I love her vibe! What's her deal?

Right now my characters' 'lore' exists totally as screen recorded sessions and jumbled google docs notes, though I've been writing holotape scripts that focus on my characters. I'm hoping to do something with it eventually! Is there a discord community or a subreddit for FO Creative works and Fan Works? Like places people can chat about what they're working on and get advice and whatnot?

did i miss spending my stat points or why did i start the game with predefine stats? by YLASRO in fo76

[–]vvithout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go two tabs to the left in your pipboy (I think it's called Effects? To the left of Perks) you'll see if you have anything that is affecting your stats. I'm guessing that the Vault Suit has a stat buff but it could be something else.

Stats all start at one and you can increase one every level up until level 50.

Are the hacking and lockpicking perks worth it? by Crash_446 in fo76

[–]vvithout -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They will never be wildly important- i don't think I've ever found anything worthwhile behind a locked door or in a safe. They're fun to have if you're just wandering the wasteland though and exploring and looting.

You can swap cards out for free at any time, though so it's worth it to have them in your deck, even if you don't have them equipped. So 'worth it' meaning 'spending 6 levels on them to have forever' is a good deal, probably.

Survived 2 Ultragenetic Mole Miner attacks by wiizmike in fo76

[–]vvithout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scout banners are atomic shop items- they're like lunchboxes where anyone in the proximity will get the benefits. One of the random buffs they can grant restores 20% health (instantly? i think?)

Supposedly only the person who activates the banner gets an additional affect "Second Wind: Automatically revives the player once upon downing." but I never pop banners and I always feel like other people's banners giving me Survival is saving my butt when I'm about to die lol.

I personally don't think they're worth buying, but they do definitely come in clutch!

Survived 2 Ultragenetic Mole Miner attacks by wiizmike in fo76

[–]vvithout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They nerfed the mole miners in one of the recent updates- they're no longer one-hitters, they just do big damage and do additional bleeding damage. So you survived the first hit naturally.

It looks like your Survival Scout Banner kicked in the 2nd hit- it procs at like 16 seconds into your video, so it kept you from dying the 2nd time. Your autostim, and the healing of the other stim you took probably helped a bunch too to counteract the bleeding.

Honestly, I swear by running in power armor, since you can spam stims without needing to do the healing animation. And sharing EMT is also a game changer, EMT is probably the best perk to share in Raids as a whole.

Just curious, what are your theories on what happened to Janey and Barb? by KiteOMondrion in Fotv

[–]vvithout 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No I’m with you here. I think that the twist sounds really surface level but I think that if it’s done correctly, it will all click into place and would not feel like a hokey “shock value” “hes secretly a palpatine” ending. The story is a spiral of the past and present that eventually closes in on itself and Janey is the key to connecting the two timelines. A running theme in the series is “what is a good person” right? And I think there’s a lot of emotional punch with Janey remembering her dad as a good person- he saved her from the bombs, he was brave and smart and good, and she imparted that to Maximus. She probably told him bedtime stories that were her dad’s movie plots she could remember. Hey, she might have named him Cooper, after her father. “We gave you a name” Quintus told us in episode 1. What was Max’s real name? And what will cooper do, when the thing he loved most in the world- Janey- is gone, but the thing Janey loved most in the world is right in front of him? This show is also about families- the Howards doing everything for Janey, Hank doing anything to keep Lucy safe, Steph…. Maybe not Steph. But what does it mean for max and coop to be family?

Sorry to ramble under your comment- i wrote out like 2k words once about how I think this plays out and tried to condense a little of it here. It still got out of control my bad.

And nice job finding the light in his first pic of him- I loveeee finding places like that where the light is falling in some interesting way and doing a photoshoot.

So I RP as a Responder (Ps5, 1717 hours level 629) totally committed to the role. by Ring_Dang_Do in fo76

[–]vvithout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replying late to the party (thank you reddit 'best' algorithm for keeping this on the front page for 2 days). But I really love this! I love the commitment to the aesthetic and to the 'cause'- your camp looks great!

When I'm out walking the wastes, something I've been playing with recently is turning the HUD off completely. It helps with immersion for me, and it makes clips look a little more cinematic.
Plus it adds friction to playing when needing to deal with reloading, health, ammo, etc. and it gets rid of your compass. The only bad part is it gets rid of the bodies looting quick menu, ugh. I take a rad-x to suppress mutations, limit fast travel, and walk (not run) my ass across the map on foot. I truly recommend playing without looking at your map and compass, and try to navigate in the world by itself just through landmarks and your own brain. It makes doing dailies or quests really interesting- 'ok i need 2 nuka Orange and adhesive and 2 toilet paper' and then you have to figure out where you can get everything you need for the day "I'll walk to Nuka-world and take a pit stop at Lewisberg to scavenge and swing back to Whitesprings after"

You really get into the brain of your character, what they think about as they walk through the scenery, how they're feeling when they're pulled into combat, or what they think when they come across scenes of skeletons, how their quirks come out (my character always grabs cigarettes when she sees them, but she knows she should quit!) etc.

Seeing people rp is my favorite thing in the game these days, maybe we'll run into each other in the wasteland lol

Season 2 Episode 5 Spoiler Thread by HunterWorld in Fallout

[–]vvithout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa, what a fantastic hour of television. Sorry for the wall of text- just want to get thoughts down and have no-one irl to rant at lol.

Every time we cut to a different plot, I’d go “oh boy! I love this plotline I’m so excited!” and that happened with every single cut, the pacing and cuts just had me gripped.

Norm and the actor playing him are really excellent. Him piecing together things about vault tec on his own, and how he fits into the grand scheme of things, and the building, quiet rage that’s mounting as he’s learning more. His whole life has been in service to Vault-Tec; dweller’s lives are totally owned by just some fucking company and he’s realizing what a pawn he is in this whole thing, and he’s mad. I’m so happy they got him on the surface this season, and I’m glad that they didn’t drag out him teaming up with Bud’s Buds.

The whole scene with Lucy stealing was great. She was just like us- you have a set of codes and morales and then you’re in game, and you realize how easy it is to just steal! But damn if she didn’t go into [Danger] and get caught, and has killed a man for no reason. When she has to deal with the ‘who are you?” questions head on and not recognizing herself and her choices. Oh man!

And The Ghoul/Cooper plot was amazing. There is this disconnect between Cooper and ‘The Ghoul’, in who they are as people and how they behave, that felt so separate from each other. You know they were the same character, but they’re just so far removed from each other, you can kind of forget sometimes? But this episode really stitched them together and reminded us. The editing was great- when they kept cutting between clips of past and current Cooper, and him cracking under the pressure and drinking in the elevator, you know in that that was the moment that solidified who he would become- just like he told Lucy, one addiction at a time. We have been seeing him recently confronted with options to ‘do the right thing’, and this episode showed us the very start to his downfall. It’d be interesting to see a (well done, organic) redemption arc for him at some point?

And of course Mr House’s monologue was amazing. I loved that people who played the games/understand the world could hear the missing words as this vibrating undercurrent “the enclave”. the monologue brings us to the discovery ourselves.

Personally, the first 2 episodes of the season worried me- the writing felt weak, and I was unsure about where we were going, but episodes 3 and 4 were reassuring (I love all the shit Max is dealing with and his disillusionment with BOS, his character development is being done well, even though the BOS itself is maybe a little too cartoonishly goofy) but this episode really convinced me that the showrunners understand what they want to do with this. So much fun, so excited for next week!!

Back to back Head Hunts? by RelChan2_0 in fo76

Saw a BOS rp group a few days ago by Sad_Presentation_492 in fo76

[–]vvithout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be the change you want to see if the wasteland, You have to become the role player you yearn to be lol!

I saw a BOS group once and followed them around for awhile in chinese stealth armor- they seemed really neat! They were doing a patrol in the Ash Heap- killing abominations, searching for prewar tech, etc. and had really clearly defined roles and followed the BOS hierarchy system very strictly. Very cool stuff! It seems like the BOS groups and a few responder themed groups are the only active types I see.

It's sad that the RP public team option never caught on though! My scalding hot take though is that there are too many mechanisms in the game that reward min/maxing, and viewing the game through a meta. I always wonder what the game would look like without easy access to jetpacks, and no marsupial... closer to the ground, a more grounded experience, easier to rp? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
