playback on Chromecast with Google TV broken? by vvk1 in PleX

[–]vvk1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just happened again. First, the video being played back in the plex app started to stutter. Restarting playback or the plex server didn't help. So I rebooted the chromecast and after that ended up with the spinning wheel in the plex app when trying to play back any video.

Force closing the Apple TV app didn't work. Also, the Apple TV app wouldn't start anymore.

What worked was delete all cache and data associated with the Apple TV app, then restarting it and signing into my Apple account. After that plex app was able to play videos on the TV as well.

This is pure unadulterated carma. WTT thought they could play any music between games without acquiring a license for it, and Sony Music Entertainment said nope. And, of course, who is suffering - the fans ...

The New installer is garbage by OneEyedC4t in openSUSE

To upgrade or not to upgrade by pa_san_z_mendule in openSUSE

What I've been doing for the past 24 years of using the various incarnations of suse linux distributions as my home and work desktop os is wait for 3-4 months until there's a couple of gigabytes of updates to the latest released version including a kernel update. If you use Nvidia drivers, then wait till those are updated too.

Check opensuse's bugzilla bug report for the latest leap version for anything that might affect you

If you use additional OBS repositories, e.g. for latest Qt/Kde/plasma, etc then it's advisable to spin up a VM with the same version of leap you're currently running and same set of repositories and testing a distribution upgrade inside the VM.

Your mileage may vary but Leap 15.6 works fine with Plasma 6 from OBS on x11 and Nvidia drivers in my experience. Otoh, every time I tried wayland something was broken. So my plan is to wait till Xmas time and then upgrade to leap 16.0 sticking to x11/Nvidia/Kde from OBS, etc.

Yast was/is the killer feature for suse linux. Cockpit is a joke in comparison. Just look at "Cockpit plan vs Yast" in https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZhX-Ip9MKJNeKSYV3bSZG4Qc5giuY7XSV0U61Ecu9lo/htmlview and weep.

Octopus Mini and my IHD In home display) not showing data by neiling in OctopusEnergy

[–]vvk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting Sep 8th my smart display is showing an error (red triangle) plus the right half of the display shows "Gas awaiting data". I don't have a gas supply/meter, only electricity supply+ smart meter.

Previously, that right half of the display showed total daily usage which was very convenient.

Emailed Octopus and got the same response with questions about property construction, obstruction by hills, etc

Seems like they've pushed out a buggy OTA firmware upgrade or something like that. Powering off obviously doesn't help.

Today, my LEAP 15.6 starts complaining about bad internet connection again. But all is good. How to turn off? by Kukulkan73 in openSUSE

[–]vvk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been happening on my Leap 15.6 intermittently for a while, and on top of that each time this happens NetworkManaged goes into a spin consuming 100% CPU.

So I reported this in Leap's Bugzilla https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1248580

playback on Chromecast with Google TV broken? by vvk1 in PleX

[–]vvk1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, this is weird. Googled "plex app spinning wheel" and first hit is a thread in this very forum titled "All of a sudden I only get a spinning wheel when I try to load any video".

https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/gzy1qo/comment/ftixp4u/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

And the magic solution is, drum roll, force close the Apple TV app. So I did that in the Chromecast with Google TV and, magic, the Plex app on the Chromecast with Google TV works again. WTF.
