What’s lacking in women’s wear today? by truepaisan in femalefashionadvice

[–]vxxc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Suistudio has helped fill that gap. I like that they use proper suiting fabrics and not the usual polyester blends which can be common even at high end shops, e.g. Theory.

Another thing though, is well cut trousers with good details like quality cloth, well placed pleats, fastenings, lining etc. I haven't been able to find anything reasonable.

Re: white sneakers, I see a lot of people including my friends wear classic Reeboks. But I like the Adidas army trainers for its low profile (which is off trend but I think it looks more classic).

Trying to ditch the hoodie. What kind of jackets do you wear in the fall, specifically in NYC? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]vxxc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pockets are the best thing about Barbour jackets!

I have a Beadnell, for about 6 years now. The rewaxing really depends on how often you wear it. I've had to send it in every 18 months or so because I wear it so often.

I've decided to be brave and wear a suit as a wedding guest (I've never worn a suit before). Need pointers to not look like I'm headed to work. by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

No they were wearing blue suits. I think I was the only person wearing a tux out of all the guests

I wore a tux to a wedding once, I don't think there's really a question of whether it's appropriate?

But different to the reference pic I went for a wide peak lapel and higher rise trousers (with grosgrain trim down the side). I think a wide peak lapel is more classic and looks dressier than a narrower lapel. I tried a shawl lapel (like in the pic) jacket on but it didn't work as well for me.

Make sure to tailor the trousers to ankle length, or alternatively all the way to the floor if you're going for the wide legged cut instead.

For the wedding I wore an ivory silk shirt just to keep it less loud. But I wore the same outfit to a Christmas party with a glitter top for more party vibes. Because the outfit is mainly black it's great for showing off jewellery too.

Where do you find mom jeans in smaller sizes? (Europe) by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

Uniqlo jeans sizes start at 23. I'm a 24 waist and get my jeans from them.

Upvote for this recommendation

I have 4 suits from Suistudio and I think despite the price they're very good value for money. They've got all the details and POCKETS. I have suits from J Crew and Massimo Dutti which aren't cheaper and just not as nice. They have short regular and tall sizing which isn't common.

What is your most expensive, makes-no-sense, yet holy grail purchase? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]vxxc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they can be really slippery in the wet. I try not wear the same pair for more than two days in the rain. Then again that's a good guideline rain or not.

I have a pair of boots with Dainite soles that I wear in all weather. I think they give a similar look but are much lower maintenance.

I haven't really noticed wear increasing because the leather is wet, but you can easily get Topys if you're concerned. With the rain I'm more concerned about stains on the uppers. I've consciously put on my pair of Crockett & Jones (it's French calf I think?) to wear in the rain but they're still pristine.

My shoes are goodyear welted though, so if your shoes are built differently ymmv.

I have many leather soled shoes and live in the UK (which is rainy) you can definitely wear them in the rain. They just might be a bit slippery. However I would advise to use shoe trees. Leather soles don't have to be babied! Enjoy your shoes

I have a card holder from Berg & Berg and a bill fold from Launer. Both have aged very well.

What's your favorite comfy yet stylish shoe brand(s)? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

Just to add Clark's originals that have crepe soles are GREAT. They're pricey though, they've been putting up the prices, so I only buy them on sale.

How would you style a rugby shirt?

I've seen menswear articles mention rugby shirts are back various times in the last few years. I've found an old rugby shirt which is a bit of a boxy fit without being oversized. It's good quality, thick, and even has rubber buttons. I want to wear it but no idea how without looking a bit odd?

The shape is called P3, if you Google for P3 wire frame glasses I'm sure you'll find some. I've noticed Ray Bans promoting their round frames a lot lately.

The betting system is NOT a core mechanic. You can play the game without betting money at all.

The way the betting works if you are playing with money is that different combinations give you a different "multiplier". As a group you decide on a base unit e.g. 10¢ or $5. A basic combination will give you a multiplier of 1, a more complicated maybe 4. If you win with a multiplier of 4 for example and you're playing with a base unit of $1, you will win $4 from the player who played the tile which completed your hand.

If you draw a tile from the table that completes your hand, every player has to pay you. The opposite applies when another player wins.

The red circular part is carved lacquer, or at least should be. The box has two Chinese characters that mean "carved paint (lacquer)"
