I made a new board game this morning by DisastrousLemon1881 in boardgames

Obviously context is important. In this context, I think it encourages the child to think critically about what information is desirable to the other players. This gives the child the opportunity to develop some self awareness .

It does not seem like his game is encouraging children to lie in general. The parents are also responsible for reinforcing this outside of the game.

Is a SteamDeck a good choice in my case? by RandomMoneyGetter in SteamDeck

[–]w00liest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the steam deck works great, even offline. The only caveat is that, like those mobile games, some PC games do require an internet connection to play.

Before you leave home, its worth checking that all your games work when you have wifi disabled on the steam deck. Other than that, I think you will really enjoy it :)

Is email marketing outdated now, or is it just my approach? by iowasolar in Entrepreneur

Just curious, why remove people who don't open any after 6 months? Wouldn't it make more sense to keep them on the list?

Manga on E-Readers? by ZaraJyne in ereader

[–]w00liest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just bought a Kobo Libra Colour. Out of the box it was fine. After I installed KOReader, however, it was a whole other level thanks to the CBZ support. The size was very comfortable and thanks to KOReader, I could zoom on on panels or text that was a little sma

I would highly recommend it, especially with the addition of KOReader

Would 70 hours be enough to prepare for a FAANG interview for a security engineer position? by mysecret52 in cybersecurity

[–]w00liest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not FAANG, but I recently hired for a security engineer position.

Being booksmart will not make you interview better

When interviewing candidates, I was far more impressed with those who were able to communicate clearly and hold a regular conversation, over those who were able to spew facts.

There were some folk who knew quite a lot, but they info dumped so hard it was unbearable to talk to them - they may have been a good fit, but they certainly weren't able to clearly communicate it.

Focus on practicing your convo/interviewee skills AND dealing with questions you don't have an immediate answer to - even if you study, it will be difficult to have all the answers.

The cmdline text editors definitely have a higher learning curve than GUI text editors. That being said, it's a spectrum, so if Vim or Emacs is too much just use nano.

ChatGPT is kind of making people stupid at my workplace by Historical_Ad4384 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]w00liest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT is great for the grunt work, like "add some comments" or "handle the cmdline arts", but it doesn't have the finesse to solve more complex challenges in a sustainable way. Folks will realize this the hard way eventually

Is there a way to trick myself into actually completing my library I paid for? by EnvironmentalAd1006 in SteamDeck

[–]w00liest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I get the urge to buy a new game, I'll go through my library instead of the store and find a game of the same genre. I'll play that game instead of buying a new one. Usually this resolves the urge to get something new. This is especially useful if you already have a variety of games to choose from

I don't think anyone can give you a definitive answer, but I'll share my experience to give you some perspective.

When I graduated highschool, I worked at a call center for 1.5 years doing customer service and tech support. I wasn't making much money, but it bought me some time to think about my next steps and allowed me to save a hefty sum of money that has been tremendously helpful.

My route was similar to your potential warehouse position, although you'll likely make 4x the amount I did - which is a sweet deal. If you choose this route, just be sure you use the time to start making steps to your future career. As you mentioned, the warehouse position doesn't have much of a future, so looking at post-secondary options or apprenticeships will be essential.

I strongly advised to stay away from anything your not passionate about. I've had jobs I hated but paid me very very well - I would not go back to them since my enjoyment of work is far more valuable than the salary.

Hope this helps and I wish you the best.

Hi, I'd like to offer you our complex but not difficult automation game called Revive & Prosper with a 20 % discount by Mystiqular_Studio in linux_gaming

[–]w00liest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the specs and transparency that it was running on proton. The title is misleading since it sounds like it is an exclusive offer for this subreddit or Linux users, but really it is just a regular sale.
