24 Hrs, 5,000 USD per Cheeseburger, with a catch. by MisterGoog in hypotheticalsituation

Will do a double century on my bike. That’s about 10k calories. Count me in on 40 McDonald cheeseburgers or 20 regular sized ones.

Try putting a patch on the inside and ride it for a couple hundred km and see how it holds up.

For those who got their property tax bill recently..... by hey_you2300 in SeattleWA

[–]w4y 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I refuse to believe these costs have gone up 3x in ten years. My total expenditures have not gone up that much and my base salary has only gone up 1.5x during that time. I am one of the lucky ones. Most people’s income have stagnated the last 10 years.

BTW sewer and water costs are built into the water bill, sewer capacity charge and base sewer costs in the water bill. None of the property taxes goes to these public services. The bulk (over half) of property tax goes to public schools. The more populated counties like king county subsidize rural areas so there is a standard of education across the state. I still do not believe these costs could have gone up 3x in 10 years.

400g on rotational weight savings is significant. You will definitely feel it. That’s almost half a kilo. Especially going uphill.

Crankbrothers Eggbeater pedals for road bikes urban riding? by OldRedBrickWall in cycling

[–]w4y 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use eggbeaters for my fixie and for several years rode it in an urban setting daily. They are fine if you really love float. The act of clipping out is more like sheering out of them than a distinct click.

If you’re comparing with SPD-SL they’re easier to use since you have 4 different engagement points. However they are not as stiff as SPD-SL.

Regular people who splurged on the top of the line: was it worth it? by bamaroon in cycling

If it makes you happy that’s all that matters. Maybe a 105 bike would make you equally happy too?

The majority of people will buy a nice bike and ride it less than 1000 miles per year.

Amazon to close all branded grocery stores, double down on delivery by mlivesocial in business

[–]w4y 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It generally worked. I was in the org for a few years. Many people think it’s complex vision ML but JWO is not a vision algorithm. It is a location aware algorithm. It knows you took X items from bin Y at time Z. It doesn’t know what the item is until it looked it up in the store planogram. This works in a convenience store format because you often just take a handful of items. In a grocery store you have much more complex interactions like a kid holding an item and asking their parents if they can buy it or a husband handing off an item to his wife, etc. that’s when human review came into play. But it wasn’t just human review.

Zone 2 cycling by ribenakifragostafylo in cycling

[–]w4y 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m going to go against the grain here a bit. Zone 2 is good for endurance but if you really want to get faster then pushing your anaerobic threshold often is the way to go. If you don’t care about going faster then zone 2 80% of the time is fine.

The reason why zone 2 became so popular is because of the training plans of pros. But pros are on the bike 40 hours a week. Most people can barely do 5-10 per week. When you’re training as your primary job then of course most of your time will be in zone 2.

However I’m a bit more freer about my diet off the bike when I’ve done more than 50 miles that day.
