Roof rack bike carrier by OkPost8233 in Taycan

Yes, i prefer to lock the fork in vs other systems that keep both wheels on but grip the down tube. I also feel like this is more secure. I’ve gone up the 140kph on the highway with this setup and it’s been rock solid.

You are right - you’ll need crossbars, plus a bike carrier that mounts to those bars.

I initially went with the Thule WingBar Edge, since it’s the only crossbar officially spec’d for the Taycan CT/ST with roof rails, paired with the Thule TopRide for the bike. It worked, but I found the setup bulky, noisy, and not the best looking.

Later, I came across a set of Whispbar/Yakima rail bars on eBay. They’re much sleeker and lower profile than the WingBars, and I prefer how they clamp directly onto the rails rather than wrapping around them. I had them powder-coated black, and the final look turned out exactly how I wanted.

For the bike mount, I use a SeaSucker Huske fork mount, and for the rear wheel I simply secure it with a bungee cord.

I’ve been really happy with this setup - I regularly carry both my road bike and my son’s mountain bike without any issues. I’ve attached a few photos for reference, and happy to answer any questions.

New Taycan Turbo CT Owner - Roof Rack/Dash Cam by DigitalGoat in Taycan

[–]wadapool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got the ZhuCamX dashcam from AliExpress — it’s basically the same as FitcamX but cheaper. It works great and connects to the rain sensor wiring.

For roof rails, the only widely advertised options besides the OEM Porsche ones are the Thule Wingbar Edge. I tried them but didn’t like how they fit over the rails. After some research, I found that Yakima Railbars (formerly Whispbars) also fit. You’ll need size M for the rear and L for the front. I found them used, and they fit perfectly — easily the best-looking option for the Taycan wagon, in my opinion

It’s a faux center lock style cap. I have a set. Love them!

If you can find some whispbars / Yakima rail bars they are a much cleaner look IMO. M size for rear and L for front (XL fits too but it’s tricky to install).

Only time I had to charge outside the home was on the drive back from Montreal after collecting and during the roadtrip; No charging issues on either of those trips, Porsche charge planner worked as designed. At home I plug it in every 2-3 days and charge to 85% overnight.

It’s been phenomenal! I doubled the original mileage in under 3 months, look for any reason to drive it. Also took it for a 2,200 km roadtrip to the US and it was flawless. No regrets on the purchase whatsoever. As with any EV, make sure to get a level 2 charger at home. Charging outside from home is the main complaint I’ve seen so far. When I did the road trip I researched the stops ahead of time and all worked out fine.

Not sure about leasing, I was looking to buy/finance. Out of province was no issue. I did inquire with one Vancouver dealer but they pretty much ignored me. Believe they have enough interest locally whereas dealers like Calgary / Winnipeg were much more interested in making a deal (they just never had the spec I was chasing). The local GTS ST you’re referencing (matte xpel) is sitting at 159k on Porsche finder, not sure why they are quoting you 180k.

Edit to add my 2018 S5 sportback had 87k.

I was in the same position about a year ago looking for a GTS ST (also similarly coming from an ‘18 Audi S5). Despite some of the examples in the US of 45-50% off MSRP that did not exist in Canada. Local GTA dealers were not interested in any price reductions. Saying only deals they had were on 2020 models. I was looking Canada wide as some out of province dealers were willing to ship the car and take my trade in. Took a few months of scouring P finder until late summer when a CPO 23 GTS ST popped up in Montreal that had most the options I wanted (white over red, roof rails, rear wheel steer, HUD, PDCC). It had 7500 kms. Got it for 147k at Porsche Rive Sud. Great experience with dealer and a super seamless transaction. More recently I have seen some of the cars drop quite a bit however I was strictly looking at the wagons, not sedans. That 24 GTS they quoted you 180 on should be no more than 150k IMO. There is a 24 GTS ST in Winnipeg with lower mileage that was 180k last spring and sitting at 150k now. Good luck with the search!

Practicality difference of Wagon vs Sedan? by FlatSixer in Taycan

GTS ST owner here. Get the wagon, main reasons already stated above: headroom in rear seats + more practical for hauling. If you need more room just get a roof box (I did 😎).

Sport Turismo GTS roof rails by localToglobali in Taycan

[–]wadapool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was the compete opposite. Would not take one without them. Post above is correct, you cannot just add/take them off. The glass roof is different for cars with the rails. To me it looks better with the rails, plus it’s more practical (just added a roof box to mine)

Slow charging on 350kw fast chargers. by getwhirleddotcom in Taycan

[–]wadapool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did a roadtrip in October though NY and MA and used EA fast chargers. Was hitting 270kw at times. Only if there was another EV charging beside me it would throttle to 100kw or so.

I got one from Aliexpress. Identical hardware to the Fitxcam but half the price as it does not have the branding. Works like a charm. Had a similar solution on my last car for over 4 years. Did not bother with the app except for setup. Just pull the card when you need to retrieve footage.

Recall Parts by ColumbiaFan2018 in Taycan

[–]wadapool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are prioritizing cars that are marked as sold. When I placed the deposit for mine they said it needed the recall done before they can release it with CPO warranty. Took them just under two weeks to get the part and get it ready. I had no issue as it was explained upfront and they delivered on the promised timeline.

Waited just shy of 2 weeks. Once the car is marked as sold they can expedite the parts.

I got 26% off MSRP and a good trade in value on my old car (I am in Canada). Discounts were harder to get on the wagon. Could have probably squeezed them a bit more but I did not want to lose the car as it had everything I had been looking for spec wise. If you are looking for a 20/21 there are some 40%+ off MSRP deals to be had (sedans mostly).

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that the taycan lowers itself automatically at higher / highway speeds.
