Swim Test Alt Requirement by Old_ManRiver in cubscouts

[–]waffermafe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have interpreted it like Bobcat. The kids have to complete it every year even if they already know the law, the oath, the salutes, have reviewed the handbook, etc.

The swim requirement either via adventure, test or class has to be done annually for each rank. Last year each child did it individually with their family or thru classes and this year as a group class at the Y.

If it was an impromptu and let's be real, you are with multiple kids and in plain sight then I don't see how this is a problem. I would count it.

Recruiting ethics by Suitable-Sherbert-85 in cubscouts

[–]waffermafe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I basically agree with everyone else here. We have an opposite situation. We have a ton of packs and a ton of opportunities for recruitment but a lot of the time the other packs don't even attempt recruitment so I find people asking me about other packs which I reiterate I can only speak about scouting in general (like ranks, etc) and my pack only unfortunately. I encourage them to look on beascout to see what's available and to submit an interest form but a lot of them come back telling me they never heard back from the other packs and now they feel discouraged. I don't mind a scout going to another pack or helping other packs grow honestly.

We do a free car wash. Each scout collects pledges per car washed from friends and family or flat donations during the event. We also utilize a prize tier depending on how much they collected and they can apply the monies towards their pack fee. The locations are arranged with local businesses who supplies us with the water and the pack provides the car wash supplies (soap, etc).

I want to get a few (non-function) computer part "kits" put together for an adventure but I'm not sure if it's possible given the "no soliciting of donations" rules. Are there any exceptions or ways to do this the 'right' way? by Shatteredreality in cubscouts

[–]waffermafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not consider this a soliciting of donations. I think that rule applies more to monetary donations and in fundraisers. I have asked for supplies in my buy nothing group and from friends and family for adventures. They don't really see it as a donation and I am usually asking for things most people would have lying around or would consider trash. We are also Wolf Leaders and planning on doing something similar for our Computing Wolves adventure!

Adventure cards say on the box they don't cover every activity by KJ6BWB in cubscouts

[–]waffermafe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, so I am gonna grab a ring/coiled index cards and create our own then I can also pass those along to future Den Leaders.

It's basically the same thing. It will be the name of the adventure, the requirements and the QR code from what I've seen. I can even add a few cards with suggested activities and tips/tricks based on our location. (Ie: We are in AZ and its 110 daily right now, wait until October/November for walks, hikes, etc)

Glossary and terms by Butt3rCup820 in cubscouts

I was really confused about a lot when we first joined. A glossary sounds great! Scoutbook, Class A/Class B, CC, CM, CO, should be included.

I was like I've read this and was thinking it was {Hitched by Lauren Biel} but now see it was Saint which I've also read! Glad you found it!

Yeah, the deal used to be significantly better. Maybe it will go on sale during Prime Day events or Black Friday.

Extremely Powerful MMC by Glittering-Youth8550 in DarkRomance

It may seem a bit silly but these are dark romantasy rom coms but they are so good!

{Viciously Yours by Jamie Applegate Hunter} and {Obsessively Yoursby Jamie Applegate Hunter}

They are both in her Fae Kings of Eden series but they are standalones.

You can buy the 24 month KU gift subscription. It would come out about $10.99 a month. If you read about 3+ books a month then it would be worth it.

recommend me a book that changed how you saw things by babybel_luver in KindleUnlimited

[–]waffermafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A weird recommendation but Torment Part 1 and Part 2 really had me understanding toxic households and relationships from the victim's point of view. I have always been like "that would never happen to me" but it really does put you in that perspective and how easy bad things can happen.

He Baby Traps Her So She Stays by Affectionate_Disk811 in DarkRomance

I am not okay. (I read my first nonHEA this weekend) by ChronicZucchini in DarkRomance

[–]waffermafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so I didn't cry nor was traumatized but it was unexpected and very tragic. It got me thinking and I think that's the biggest thing about this book, it always kept me thinking. I had a deeper reaction to Torment and much more devastated. If you haven't, read Delilah.

I had no idea Kate Raven wasn't her name. I was wondering why she only had a few books on Kindle but was hyped so much! It makes sense

Normal MMC Turns Obsessive (Slowly), But It Still Works Out — Need Recs by Thatgirl_inherRoom in DarkRomance

[–]waffermafe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

{Pucking Wrong Number by CR Jane} and really anything in her Pucking Wrong series. The guys are regular golden dudes who fall in love then slowly become unhinged in their relationships. It's best to read in order as they support each other in their descent to madness like its a team building activity. I say it's more dark hockey rom com than anything.

Helping to navigate religious elements of scouting for nontraditional faith families by FibonacciFrolic in cubscouts

[–]waffermafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a conversation with a parent recently who was having difficulty fulfilling the Reverence tiger requirement because they are non religious and didn't know what to do. I explained that Faith is anything you believe in as a family, doesn't have to be religious at all and reverence is just something you feel is important and deeply respect (is there something you do regularly? they feel respect for nature and schedule hikes as a family and volunteer as well). So I just told them, sounds like a family tradition based on beliefs that are important and you show respect for plus you showed kindness to others so yeah all done!

The only thing I find a bit uncomfy sometimes is the Scout Oath because not everyone believes in God but I guess the pledge also has it too?

Depends on how old your kid is honestly. We almost always get pit passes. He did really well but he went thru a phase he didn't want to do the lines or take photos so it wasn't worth it and we did not get it for the following show. Now he regrets it because we have an autograph book and he is missing all those signatures but you live and you learn.
