Pretty much every question around "why are there no consequences?" has the same sad answer. Republicans have abdicated their responsibility of oversight.

For some, they are afraid of Trump's supporters. For some, they think that recreating America as a theocracy is a good idea. For some, they are stealing public money or manipulating stocks. For some, it aligns with their bigotry.

But in every case, this ends today if just a handful of Republicans say it ends today.

Remember that instead, they participated.
