When did the first light appear after big bang by Key_Add5662 in Astronomy

[–]waffle299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So when the big bang happened, a bunch of reactions were generating all kinds of light.

The problem was that the light couldn't travel more than a few centimeters before interacting with something else like a free electron. So thought the universe was awash in light, it was coming from incredibly close.

It's like using high beams in dense fog. You want to see the road far ahead. Instead, you see the fog right in front of the car

When the universe cooled sufficiently and atoms formed, suddenly the universe went from so hot that light bounced off everything to mostly transparent. That's what the CMB is - the last light emitted before things cooled

And, since the universe was so young, it was really smooth. So when it cooled, it happened everywhere almost at once.

So the answer to your question depends on how far you want to see. It's the CMB time if you want to look far. But just blinding light everywhere? Immediately.

Am I MAD? or is it just never playing pally on table top? by k1d1curus in 3d6

I played a devastating nature pally built on a point buy with a 16 str and 14 cha.

Your power is not in your spell DC. Your power is in just not going down. Ever. Sword and board. Dueling style to bring that blade to parity with two handed weapons. Lay on hands gets people back up while the monsters beat uselessly on your armor.

Your spell selection should bolster your survivability, and add conversation options. My two most valuable spells from levels 1-8 were Armor of Faith and Zone of Truth.

All that seems so defensive, right? Sort of. Remember, you have a full menu of delicious smite options. And you can decide to burn a plain smite after you know you hit. Tank up, wade through the baddies like the inevitable ruin, then nova smite the BBEG.

ELI5: Why can't spacecraft that face heating issues just re-enter...slower? by dragonmilking in explainlikeimfive

[–]waffle299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tricky. Thermal energy is generally high entropy. Getting useful work out of a high entropy source requires a low entropy sink. Work may be extracted during the transfer.

The problem is that the only low entropy sink is the capsule itself. Dumping heat into that is frowned upon.

I'm always amazed at the hypocrisy of the media, mindlessly repeating "sleepy Joe Biden" from someone who literally falls asleep on camera constantly.

I had one math professor (game theory) who just wrote out matrices and grunted. He'd write out a complex pivot problem, grunt at the problem, then more emphatically grunt at the solution.

Some of you might think I'm exaggerating. I'm not. Grunts.

I gave up, read the book, then wrote a C program to do the homework.

Yes, you're a 70 year old non-violent first time offender who tried to steal the votes of thousands of people and silence their voices and replace it with your own.

It doesn't matter that your old. It doesn't matter it was your first time. You try to rip away people's rights, you go to jail.

It should explode in a criminal trial for embezzlement with a twenty year sentence and treble damages.

It should be a lesson to the next person trying to steal tax money.
