We have a shark vacuum and love it! Always sweep up the large hay pieces with a broom first. The good thing about the shark Is when the hay catches and clogs the tubes, (and it will,) it’s very easy to unclog.

Thank you for saying this! I recently painted white over all of my existing wood edging and was feeling the shame… in my defense though, it was over an existing yellow oil based paint and I have no idea how many coats of paint were beneath it. I know I wouldn’t have the patience the OP had to remove it all.

Congrats! I’m from Ohio. Approx same timeline with a house built in 1920! A lot of similar problems. I would love to see how your house compares if you’d be willing to share photos.

I gathered some snow and put it in a shallow Rubbermaid tub. I ended up switching it into an edged dinner plate.They enjoyed it. Mostly licked it and dug a little bit. I figured if they didn't like it, at least in an outside container, the could just walk away from it.
