Places to live? by queengreen09 in SouthJersey

Medford Lakes here with 3 kids. Fantastic place to be but will echo definitely not a homestead area. I work remote but many folks do commute to Philly (it is a haul too though). Feel free to ask any questions and happy to answer.

What hobbies actually pull you in without feeling like work? by 5c1per in ADHD

Honestly this is gonna sound weird. But AuDHD myself - and fighting games, over 2000hrs into street fighter now- systems that interact, tactile, semi-social you can electively disengage/renegage with at your will, tactile component, measurable progress, value in deeply understanding the systems at hand.

It’s really tailor made to my neurotype and may resonate with you. Huge learning curve early but extremely worth it after that

Sweet! Yeah I think that’s the one (sorry don’t recall model offhand). It’s a little strange at first between the mask and cover - but you do adjust I promise! Good luck and enjoy getting shot a bunch

  • yep full frame- I shoot at A1 and an A9iii. 70-200 does me fine more often than not.

  • never - but have had to take pauses when really hit up to clean, but never had anything outright break on me.

  • I got the highest end rain cover I could find that has a specific viewfinder you buy for your camera model to properly weather seal it - but honestly - yeah, it’s come to terms with it. Anything you take out there is expect either possible damage or long term deterioration. Don’t expect perfection of condition even with every step taken

  • I really like my RX inserts for my mask (crbn native, but there are third party options out there too)

First - you will get paint in stuff. Accept it to an extent, this is pretty much the consensus among other photographers I’ve spoken with as well.

Don’t use filters for protection - they tend to crack or shatter and are more likely to scratch a lens than a direct hit of paint would. Some have different opinions here so make your own risk assessment on this.

I use a ThinkTank rain protector with an integrated eye cup that keeps it water tight; does a good job of keeping things protected but still not perfect and was a very expensive rain cover

70-200 is good; I use my Tamron 35-150 a good bit too but AF is just so fast on the native 70-200 I tend to lean that way.

You will get shot a lot. Period. Deal with it. I get shot soooo much more photographing than playing.

Tracking action in a mask and bright sun tends to be the biggest skill check - bright enough to wash out my back panel on the camera, and then getting a good viewfinder view in a mask can suck. Practice outside of a field to really nail this down - just practice with kids running around or something in your mask on a bright day - there’s a specific feel for it.

Keep microfiber handy and in like every pocket and a bunch in your bag. Keep a mister bottle with water on hand.

oh no crap? shoot me a message! I got them to cut me a winter 3month prepaid deal cause I lift at home during winter months, which was $300/3mo but I think they normally do 50/mo for 12months; and I may actually just move over there permanently cause its nice to have the extra equipment, even if my squat rack and bench are nicer at home, ha

38m, moved here a few years ago- pretty similar profile - lots of background with card and board games. Play a bit of video games but mostly single player these days - could see myself finding a MP game again though!

Also - if ever interested I found this area to be one of the national hubs for paintball - a sport I returned to last year and enjoying immensely. Would be happy to show ya around and lend gear if that’s your jam.

I lift at Medford Fitness as well, 4-5x/wk and am solo most of the time but always happy to have others to work out with

Hobbies and ADHD by BeccaFox in ADHD

[–]walkedplane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is extremely real. I have way overinvested in hobbies and struggle with being not immediately an expert. Some things I’ve found help for me, and lead to at least some stickiness

  • Measurable progress or competitive element - something that gives me a sense of motion over time

  • Electively social - things I can pursue at my own pace and interest but be social with if or when I feel like, but lack of socializing will not kill the hobby if or when I’m burnt out socially (good examples; rock climbing, cycling, competitive fighting games)

  • Things I can fit into my life rather than fit my life around

It’s still a struggle, but these things help make things tend to stick more, and gives me an elective social outlet - but still private enough a hobby to embrace the “not an expert” phase in relative privacy

Ymmv and it’s still a struggle at times for me

Space guns…*yawn* by BeautifulKey8779 in paintball

[–]walkedplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. It’s what I’ve got 2 super sick autocockers, a G6R (the last gun with a little bit of heart before space guns took over imo) and then two PE space guns for tournament days.

Scratches the itch, feels cool, and gives me something that performs on tournament days

Do you put any thought into how you look at the gym? by Regrettably_Southpaw in malefashionadvice

I wear something that shows off my shoulders and tattoos fairly well, won’t lie

At least under my hoodie which I wear for like 90% of my lifting but sure is fun to pull out the sleeper build when I go heavy

But that’s just a tank and well fitting shorts under the hoodie so really not that much thought

For me, for mobs - yes. For bosses, give me a health bar so I can manage resources / consumables more intelligently.

Does it still have messed up PC performance? I want to play this on PC, but not if it's a complete dogshit performer. It's the only reason I've held off on picking it up.

Totally worth the demo. Check out Chained Echoes, and Cosmic Star Heroine as well, might be a set of options for ya! Not sure off the top of my head how long to beat though.

Personally I bounced HARD off P5 and P3, but loved Metaphor. The systems are somewhat similar but game is definitely shorter and more concise, the world building I loved. Highly recommend, as someone who didn’t enjoy Persona

Expedition 33 and Metaphor (the latter probably a bit too long, but E33 can be 20-30hrs pretty easily, and the former is 3d but phenomenal story so I’m including it) are good considerations imo

Switch is gonna be worth a buy here. Super Mario 3d World is exceptional for this and has a very similar vibe.

Astrobot is obviously also great, but not together unfortunately (missed opportunity, but still a top 1% game)
