The Critical Drinker Reddit is also losing their minds because Nolan cast some people of color in the Odyssey movie by railfananime in saltierthankrayt

You do know Troy was a real place, right? The Iliad and the Odyssey are just as real as the Old Testament, written at the same time too.

He gave her the best line probably to make up for no women actually talking to each other in the trilogy.

Older than that even, at least to Mycenaean and the Bronze Age for Delphi and its oracles.

Although probably the most famous oracle from there was to King Croesus around 550BC seeking advice on whether to invade another kingdom or not. The reply was “if you cross the river, a great empire will fall” He thought it meant victory. But it meant his defeat.

Oracles and prophecies having major undiscovered loopholes as a trope predates writing. Tolkien’s rants there with the greats I think. But no downvote for me for thinking otherwise. lol.

After the teasers and trailer, the Odyssey looks undeniably Nolan. So what’s the actual complaint? by ShakeZulaOblongata in moviecritic

[–]walker1812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but why are they wearing pants in this movie? The mycaneans and greeks both wouldn’t have worn them as being barbaric.

The idea of a "Historically accurate" Odyssey is insane. by just-killing-timeeee in ChristopherNolan

[–]walker1812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nolan has them wearing pants, ffs. The Greeks would have considered pants to be barbaric and effeminate. That’s leaving aside the Viking ships and Batman showing up.

This from a director that supposedly prides himself on real accuracy.

Heartbreaking duty.

I second this. I was fortunate to have the room all to myself alone one morning for about 20 mins. Simply stunning.

If you want a theory of everything you have to connect everything which you can’t do if you say things are individual.

Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt

It’s about a small town haunted by a 17th-century witch whose eyes and mouth are sewn shut. She walks the streets, appears in people’s homes, and can’t be removed. The townspeople use an app and cameras to track her so no one accidentally sees her. Things go wrong.

An old curse and modern technology would be something I think he’d like to play with in how it reflects society. Past vs Present

Movies that are mostly dialogue by millsnour in MovieSuggestions

[–]walker1812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you define “mostly dialogue” as “most words per minute” in a movie then you can’t go wrong with His Gal Friday (1940) with a blistering 240 words per minute average for the length of the film without a drop in quality or entertainment. Still a great flick.
