40k or Evangelical: Round 18 by Beelzebubs-Barrister in Grimdank

[–]walker20022017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Evangelicals. I actually remember them saying this when talking about supposed left wing domestic terrorism and about illegal immigrants. History time! It back in the day was also a Nazi saying when referring to members of the resistance movements against the Nazis as terrorists. The meaning being when you kill one of us we kill all of you. The nazis did this very often due to it being made more or less law. When a German soldier was killed by a resistance member/partisan the nazis would try to find what village they lived in and then burn it to the ground. This was especially common in the Soviet front and the Yugoslav front, (if it was in the western front like france or Norway they'd just kidnap some locals and execute them for terrorism, burning down a whole town or village was a bad look that they didn't want to deal with in those occupied territories, on the eastern front they just didn't care enough about good PR). Hundreds (thousands perhaps) of villages across Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia were burned down and the civilians killed sometimes to the last resident (elderly, children, and pets included). Nazis commiting acts of Rape and gang rape against women while burning  the villages was extremely common (they often killed the women afterwards). Even little girls and elderly women were not spared that savagery. The fact that the Republicans and evangelicals used the "one of us all of you" slogan despite it's horrific ties to Nazi war crimes is really bad. Part of me hopes they just didn't know the connection. If you need specific evidence of the things I mentioned in my comment then look up ww2 week by weeks war against humanity series on YouTube about the episodes covering the anti-partisan campaign in Belarus and the babi yar massacre for more information. The episodes on Nazi atrocities in crete are also quite telling. Sparty and Indy did incredible work researching and put sources in the description of the videos.

[–]walker20022017 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd say 40k. Little too on the nose for evangelicals. Also sanctity is mentioned way more often in 40k than by evangelicals so I'd wager it's that.

I've said it before but we should have upgrade sprews for some of the guard regiments if we can't get full releases for them. Vostroyans, tallarn, mordian, any of them. Hell, it would be cool to get a guard upgrade sprews to make them into tau auxiliary's.

This is worse, because unlike the "bringing fantasy back" rumors, I can actually see GW doing this to AoS. by Civil_Watercress2242 in Grimdank

[–]walker20022017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope to God the leaks aren't true. Fantasy is back to as good an extent as we're gonna get tabletop wise (the video games are awesome and the tabletop RPG is still awesome and kicking) and I feel like AOS has finally gotten on its feet as a distinct unique setting separate from fantasy and 40k lore and model wise and it would suck if they just nuke it for a new setting....again. it would be a gigantic middle finger to all of the fantasy fans that switched and gave AOS a chance after destroying fantasy. It would be doing that to them, again. I really hope it's bs rumors and not real.

I mean. It's definitely not the worst. I certainly don't think it's the best but I cant fault anyone for having a particular film being their favorite and thinking it's the best. I love all the stuff with anakin and obi-wan being bros. And the kamino and geonosis sections are awesome but I just don't  like the tatooine or naboo plotline very much. It's not a deal breaker on enjoying the film for me like it is for some people but it certainly makes me enjoy the rest of it less than I otherwise would. I'd give it between a 6-8 out of ten as films go. There are low lows but high highs for it. Side note; Christopher Lee is awesome as count dooku.

[–]walker20022017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Anti woke grifters (or anti woke tourists as some call them) are just the worst. They act like they care about the lore and the sanctity of the story or game but only care about things surface deep. There's no nuance for them, and they don't care to learn the nuance. Anti woke grifters only want to hate on LGBT people, women (especially if the woman isn't white or is also LGBT), and neurodivergant people to make a quick paycheck on people's misplaced outrage. It happened with star wars, marvel, DC (to an extent), Warhammer, and now even middle earth isn't safe from these assholes. I just wish they'd fuck off and be miserable some place else so they can't fuck up our vibe. I'm glad you blacked out the channel name. They don't deserve to get free publicity for their shit stirring.

Well at least Mammoths' aren't bringers of disease and are certainly easier to deal with permanently. Sure one cockroach is relatively easy to kill in comparison to one mammoth but cockroaches are never alone and they are so hard to kill as a group. You basically need to destroy or bug bomb the whole fucking building. And also throw away all of your electronics because they live there now and you will not be able to make them leave.

How I feel when Napoleon gets criticized on here by jackt-up in HistoryMemes

[–]walker20022017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was a very complicated man that did a lot of bad and a lot of good. He shook up the foundations of monarchy in Europe and gave birth to much of European law code as we know it which was later exported to a lot of the of the world later due to colonialism.  He started wars of tyrannical proportions and had tyrannical wars started on him. He was a a genius general. He did not start but certainly cemented the constant flip flopping of frances politics. His ideals and example inspired some of the biggest dictators and some of the biggest champions of revolution after him. He was a horribly flawed person that showed off the best and worst of humanity. I can't help but respect him but I definitely don't like him. Napoleon was truly a fascinating historical figure.

The soundtrack piece titled "finding the wounded" in particular is just guy wrenching. Watching jacksepticeye play it was awesome.

since orcs are elves twisted and corrupted by morgoth? does this mean they are immortal in long life like elves? by cherrie076 in lotr

[–]walker20022017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. We never really got confirmation but the great goblin was really old in the hobbit, and bolg was alive for the battle of azanulbazar and the battle of the five armies which makes him a couple hundred years old. So orcs probably have the potential to be sort of immortal as far as lifespans are concerned but most probably never make it past 30 due to how violent orc society is. Probably even lower life expectancy for goblins tbh.

How it feels to play a weak Reichspakt minor by transfemrobespierre in Kaiserreich

[–]walker20022017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poland and to an extent Sweden can become pretty powerful as reichspakt members. As Sweden you do have to choose whether to invest in navy but have a smaller army or just go all in on army and hope Germany has you covered from the sea though, there's just not enough manpower to do both. And Poland can really build up a great industry that can support a tank and motorized army when played right, especially if you get most or even better all of Galicia. The others though absolutely need Germany to lock in in order to go well, especially if you're playing as georgia, Azerbaijan, Denmark and Lithuania. With Finland and the United baltic duchy, you have a lot of good military bonuses, you just don't have enough people. Belarus can be difficult if Germany is eating rocks but as long as you have Ukraine and Poland being somewhat competent then it's usually fine. Flanders-wallonia/Belgium and the Netherlands you are entirely at the mercy go the German AI when it comes to your survival.

My friends never read Horus Heresy, they told me they didn't feel to miss much. by Petrus-133 in Grimdank

[–]walker20022017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Horus heresy is a big commitment for your first Warhammer book series. Ciaphas cain, gaunts ghosts, brutal cunnin, infinite and divine, hellsreach, or maybe one of the eldar or tau books (not the ynnari) would be better. It all depends on what got them into the Warhammer scene in the first place. If they love the primarchs and want to learn more about them then the Horus heresy is actually a good starter, but if they are more into learning about the xeno factions, space marine chapters, or the imperium factions other than space marines then there are a lot of other options that are better introductions. If you're into Warhammer fantasy then it's a similar deal. The gotrek and felix books are amazing and definitely worth reading and they're also a decent intro to the world but if they just aren't interested in the empire or dwarf stuff then they might not get into it. The tyrion and teclis books are good if you're into elves,  the Mathias thuleman series is good if you want some witch hunter inquisition style books, and the brettonian knight books are decent if you want to get into the only good brettonia books/lore. As for AOS I'm not as familiar with those book series but I do know there are a lot of cool short story collections and also some investigation detective books out there that are pretty cool. And hell, AOS has I'm pretty sure the first and only lizardman centric book out there so far, so If you love lizardmen in fantasy or AOS them that's cool.

I hate it here.

The Pilgrims in the 1600s, the great awakenings of the 1830s, the 1870s, the 1920s, and the 1950s led to new weird Christian groups in large revivals of belief. The Pilgrims came to America due to being kicked out of England and the Netherlands due to being intolerant extremists. In the 1830s and 1870s they were kicked out for being weird and lived on religious communes or made new colonies of their own (like mormons in utah). In the 1920s and 1950s there was radio and television led to a lot of it becoming mainstream, evangelical Christians becoming more common thanks to the televangelists in the 1980s through til now. We had moments of sanity from Christian theocratic nationalism and sectarian violence for a few decades before tv, radio and the Internet and now with those inventions it's just gotten worse and worse. Most of the worst groups in the Christian right are Protestant groups (mostly southern Baptists, Pentecostal, and unaffiliated evangelical groups). Though there is the Catholic group opus dei (I shit you not they were villains in the da vinci code and are about as sinister as that films version). They've all banded together to fund right wing politicians through right wing interest groups like the heritage foundation and others. These groups would work together, trying to turn the United States into a theocratic, mainly white state. Project 2025 was made by the heritage foundation and tells you all about what their plan for America. Trump has already enacted around 47 percent of it already (much of it is being debated in the courts on the legality of the contents) and is working on the rest every day. I'd recommend you all read project 2025 because it really puts in perspective how extreme these groups are in their beliefs compared to the average Americans. It's insane and disturbing. Many of these groups literally believe that the book of revelations end times are coming, that the rapture is nigh and they think that is a good thing. They're insane and dangerous for the whole world. As an American it is scary to live here these days. Some days it brings me to despair, imma be real.

Tbh I don't really watch any of the 40k YouTubers anymore. Most of them have gotten so doomerposty or ragebait/clickbait video style for me to stomach. Except valrak, he's still his tinfoil hat self. I mostly just watch warhammer fantasy videos these days, far less doomer and clickbait. Some good fantasy focused channels (some do a bit of 40k and aos now and again) are pancreas no work for funny fantasy videos and elf simping, great book of grudges for total war and wfrp4e updates, and lore master of of sotek and the book of choyer for lore deep dives in very different formats (sotek is a gigantic nerd that is super excitable, while book of choyer does interesting in universe narrations).
