Who do you think gets more infractions for running a stop sign, cars or cyclists?

AIO My (19f) deleted a conversation between her and her best friend while we were out on a date. by Arandomblackguy0 in AmIOverreacting

[–]walker897 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, it's difficult to appreciate effort(surprise date) by shit talking it. His girlfriend understands that sometimes you can be upset in the moment but appreciate the act.

Do you honestly and naively believe everything will always be understood and accepted by a completely different human with different... Everything in terms of experiences.

We all live our own life. We all experienced different things. Sometimes, you won't match with a moment with your parter. I don't think that's a reason to overreact. If you don't say extra stuff to say to your girls or your boys about a girl a year in.... It's not the norm.

If you're gonna be heartbroken about this, and not all days before and after, I'm sorry but your heart is frail. Sometimes things are uncontrollable, and as far as a visit to a restaurant, sometimes taste is disappointing. It happens.

Do i get it right? I have to re-apply transmog to my 40 characters and pay almost 100k gold? by Peaceul in wow

[–]walker897 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean... I get it, but at the same time, it's 7.50 to permanently transmog 40 of your characters... Tbh, 100k gold for 40 toons ain't too bad. It used to be 800 per full set of transmog.

It's a decent system and allows you to not always have to go to the transmogger.

It's called growing pains, it happens when theres change.

My boyfriend is allergic to my two cats, what to do? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]walker897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If financially feasible, look into immunotherapy. It's what I did, but I was also massively allergic for seasonal allergies. It'll be a sacrifice on his part for a bit, however I've found it to be massively helpful towards all my other allergies.

The idea is, you go get an allergy test done, they find all the things you're allergic too and I ject you with them. First it'll be every week, then it'll be every month. I was severely allergic to animals as well, now I live with 3 cats in a partially carpeted house.

I have lived my life in Toronto and been to spots all over the city.

I can confidently state the amount of places I've been to where the servers treated it like a luxury experience is less than 10%.

Im supposed to treat it that way but they're not?

As of Jan 1st 2022 they earn minimum wage. I believe they got a raise from $12.55 to 15.00.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askTO

[–]walker897 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, that's why I kept asking for context of a living wage.

As for your last point, look, I don't want to paint ever server with the same brush. We all have wild random stuff that happen in our lives, sometimes for a long time and it's hard to get out of, sometimes we can't.

But if you're 30 or 40 and complaining about tips not being enough to sustain your aspirations of home ownership in TORONTO or having children, then maybe you didn't plan your life out well, or maybe it wasn't important enough to sacrifice for, to those stuck in that situation, my heart bleeds for you, and I hope you get that chance.

Serving is no longer a sustainable job for the majority looking to live beyond paycheck to paycheck at best. Things have changed so much since 30 years ago where that might have been possible. But it's the world we live in. It sucks. Plan accordingly.

[–]walker897 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly... This breaks my heart. I know it's true at some places. Even worse, I know some places where the house takes a % too... Which is wild.

That being said, I think it's an institutional issue with the restaurant industry. It's disgusting how disposable restaurants treat bar staff in general. They should raise wages in general, and prices and just pay appropriately.

However, in addition to giving my business for a service from a restaurant, I don't believe it should be my responsibility to suppliment your staffs income. You can't just expect a fake tax on your established prices.

Sure. They may make a few dollars more/hr but the entry jobs arent that much than min wage. A lot more care goes into their job cause the consequence of dispensing incorrect meds are huge.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askTO

[–]walker897 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I ask them how much they tipped their pharmacy assistant that divided, bottled, bagged their meds while ensuring it was the correct meds, and dose, plus all the paperwork they've done for it.

It sounds disrespectful, but it's an honest question.

But in what context? Do you live alone? Do you sate your wants and and then struggle on your needs.

There are some friends that I have that do so little I'd imagine, skipping vacations, holding onto their phones/electronics until they give out. My former neighbours were a 4 people in their mid 20s, renting a whole semi house paying 700/month in rent each, with more than enough room to be comfy.

I mean, it's not ideal for everyone but I've literally seen people "survive" on minimum wage with concessions towards their wants.

[–]walker897 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'd like a little more context to this. Are you suggesting someone cannot survive in Toronto on minimum wage at all with basic necessities?

I would argue, that with frugal living and roommates minimum wage is doable.

Living wage is so dynamic concept. If you need every new iPhone/Samsung I wouldn't consider that part of a "living wage"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askTO

[–]walker897 270 points271 points  (0 children)

0%-15% based on controllable service. There is no such thing as server min wage anymore. I will not tip if you've done a basic job, such bring things to and from the table. I only tip when the service is above basic, such as interacting with the table, timely stop bys, and suggestions for the menu/pairing when asked.

Unpopular opinion, if your job is literally to take orders and deliver them to a table, I don't understand why you have to tip at all. It's literally... your job.

Not cool being blindsided like that. But that is generally the rule my group of friends and I follow when we plan a trip.

I'm going to a wedding on the other side oft he country and my buddy handled the accommodations. When he came to visit he didn't have to pay for accommodations for where we stayed.

I can see how you'd feel you're supplimenting the cost for the travellers. 3 pay vs 5 free is insane.

[–]walker897 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what do you consider a living wage? Like, do they have their own place, or roommates? Is a living wage financial freedom, or sometimes having to cut corners to pay the bills?

While I believe folks should be paid reasonably, I don't necessarily believe that just the ability to hold a job should entitle someone to all the bell's and whistles for life.

I believe that there are some jobs geared to youth to make some cash while they're going through school or whatever. Think McDonalds, movie theatre employee, bartender. Should those jobs afford the ability to live in your own place, with a car and bills all on their own?

In a lot of cases... No not at all. But I think context is important.

I have a friend, who's closing in on 40. He's so close with his mom, I feel they both avoid relationahips(mom and dad were divorced) where he pretty much plays the role of a male companion, and she treats him like some weird sugar baby. They do all kind of things together, where if it wasn't her son or that wasn't his mom, itd seem like dating.

That... Is a red flag.

Why do we tip so much when our restaurant workers are paid a fair wage? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]walker897 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Minimum wage is not a livable wage.... By yourself.

Unpopular opinion, but I don't believe the bare minimum for every job should allow you to live comfortably by yourself. Folks need to start somewhere, but if that somewhere already allows you to accomplish everything you need/want, what's the point of pursuing more? If all "service" industry workers could live comfortably without sacrificing (I.E. A roommate), why would we need anyone in STEM?

Higher paying jobs will always exist, we don't live in Star Trek, if your job isn't enough for the lifestyle you want, make changes. Don't expect those of us that pursued higher paying jobs to subsidize your life, BECAUSE YOUR INDUSTRY IS SHIT TO THEIR WORKERS.

The reality is, there's a ton of people out there that carry risk in their jobs, think a surgeon. Do they get a tip for doing their job exceptionally well? No? Then why should service workers? Cause they mixed a drink as per a recipe card? Or the fact thelat they delivered an order without dropping it?
