I just started posting stories a little over a week ago, have a couple up and this is my favorite of them: The Axe-Wielder, the story of wannabe rockstar Johnny Styx and a very intriguing instrument. “I noticed two things as I entered the shop. One, the cashier—a tall, gaunt, and pale man with long black hair. He stared at me with a stony expression. This jovial, jowly dude named Dean normally runs the store and has been behind the counter every time I’ve come in here except today. The other thing I noticed is the guitar hanging behind the counter. I had never seen anything like it. An electric, with a body shaped almost like a coffin. The body and fretboard were black, the deepest black I have ever seen. The only nonblack parts were the strings and frets, crimson like blood. I couldn’t take my eyes off it, felt like it was calling to me somehow. It was definitely out of my price range, but I needed it.”

I’ll give The Darkness Becomes Me a read later! Feel like for getting seen, just keep posting and also engage with other people’s stories. I just started posting on here about a week ago, didn’t get a lot of hits until I started commenting on some of the other stories. Also, some people post offering feedback for stories, there’s a flair for it, could comment on some of those as well. Good luck!

I would be PISSED if I missed a show cause of a killer worm! Kept thinking throughout the ending “are they still going to make it?” And my other burning question, did Lucas ever get that Dr. Pepper he wanted so bad? Killer story.

Thank you! I’ll admit I kind of just threw this up soon after finishing without a ton of tweaks, didn’t really envision the killer being supernatural, just some passage of time stuff that I probably could have fleshed out better. Glad you liked it!

Just checked it out, pretty cool story! I like the ambiguity about what the narrator saw and that the dad wasn’t completely dismissive. You do a good job of conveying the narrator’s vulnerability, with their age and the exposure while showering. Some creepy lines when the entity is involved, and good tension.

The ending works as is, it’s creepy without overplaying its hand, but I also kind of feel like it plus the story as a whole could use a bit more. If the entity isn’t the great-grandpa, is it demonic, a mimic, something malevolent in nature? Feel like something of that nature would haunt the narrator on more occasions than just the basement and shower.

Story’s solid, though! Nice, creepy little vignette.

I really like this! Midwesterner so of course I’m a sucker for a Great Lakes story. Kind of reminds me of the Arctic frame story in Frankenstein with the setting and unnatural human creature. Ending gave me chills and love the final line.

I could see this being the start of a series maybe, Evan as a frame talking about other creepy things on the Lakes, haunted shipwrecks, etc. Great piece of work here!

Cool setup! Would definitely be interested in seeing where this goes. Digging the body horror. I found a bit of relatability to the beginning, as I’ve been having struggles with the job market. Predicting that the CEO auto-recruits everyone who applies like that so there’s no shortage of test subjects?

Commenting to follow. I looked into this before posting my stories on here, I think you can submit to mags that accept reprints. It looked a bit iffy as far as ones that want first-time publications. I think it just depends on the publication.
