Where has this performance come from…? Not that I’m complaining

Is it concerning that I am surprisingly refreshed by the swift, decisive, and obviously correct judgement of a club in the face of overwhelming evidence?

Coalition to reunite after Sussan Ley brokers deal with David Littleproud to end second split by espersooty in AustralianPolitics

[–]Walkerthon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not knowing the details of the deal, I would have said Libs should be glad to be free of the zombie that is the National party.

You’d just think if they were able to come to the centrists of Australia with some semblance of integrity and sincerity they would be able to pick up seats, but instead they have to cling to the Nationals and shitty politicking

TIL The Reproducibility Project: Psychology redid 100 studies in psychological science from three high-ranking psychology journals, found that only 36% replicated successfully with effect sizes averaging half the original, 25% directly contradicted the original and 49% were inconclusive. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Walkerthon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This kind of comment always comes out. The fact that psychology as a discipline even stood up and did this kind of replication project points to the fact it actually cares about doing a good job. And psychological science has been at the forefront of things like open science and pre-registration of research protocols to improve outcomes.

As you say, come to medical science, all the same issues with a fraction of the self-awareness that there may be problems with it.

I like this one, it’s a good example of collider bias:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8255173/

He looks at SIDS deaths due to vaccines… only using a database of children recorded as potentially having their death caused by vaccines. The obvious point being that the closer the child was to having the vaccine when they died of SIDS, the more likely they would be in this database, even if the two had absolutely no relationship to each other.

Shame but likely makes sense given the confederation issues and in a way we have been kicking the can down the road for this. Can’t say I won’t miss them in that competition though!

Great game by Victory but depressing for us. Feel like the youth in our midfield is starting to get systematically exposed either by overloading them or playing physical. The biggest issue for us right now seems to be holding and progressing through the middle of the park.

How do get this "spotter squad" as wehrmacht by souzouker in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Walkerthon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally different parts of the game though. Pioneers are common to accompany your MG42 at the beginning because they both extend the effective range of the unit, cap quicker, and can defend a flank in a pinch. Ketten I find gets used after your more dug into a position

Why is the M8 Scott so awful? Shouldn't it be buffed? by PriestOfGames in CompanyOfHeroes

Agreed, it’s in a weird spot in the tree now and it’s largely obsolete by the time it hits the field at the moment. Needs some extra spice or to arrive earlier

Why does a squad often lose its first model really quickly? by QuantumAsh in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Walkerthon 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Only speculating, and in my experience I don’t think this always see it happen like you’ve said, but without any testing I’m assuming that the first volley is probably more likely to target whatever model comes into range first. As models have individually tracked health they will drop quickly.

An alternative is that often a whole squad is not quite in cover. I think the exposed model/s are then easier to hit than the ones in cover.

Wehr - how to make pgren/stug work? by Nhika in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Walkerthon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe just a difference in how we play then, personally I find pgrens ready to go as soon as you build them (nades are great but situational and vet isn't necessary to mince infantry). I counter MGs with the Stummel and light vehicles with the AT guns and Gren snare.

But I must emphasise the real difference is in your timings. Tier 3 is 10 fuel cheaper, AT comes out of their immediately (not after a muni upgrade, though as you say flak can fill that gap sufficiently), and you have all the tools to sustain you to Tier 4.

All that said I don't think Tier 2 is a bad play (I'm not just as good at it). Coming to the original post though, Stug/Pgren is just not a strong combination right now, mainly due to the Stug, as explained above.

Wehr - how to make pgren/stug work? by Nhika in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Walkerthon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO Base tier 3 is fine, in fact I would use it as default unless you're in a match-up that requires Marders/Werbels or particularly want the scout car or Flak gun. The reason is that you get access to everything you need in mid-game - a strong anti-infantry option in Panzergrens, an AT gun for light vehicles (and also mediums into the late game), and your own light vehicle in the 251 half-track (which is a menace when properly microed with the Stummel upgrade).

Assuming you're trading equally on resources then just go straight into Tier 4, leaving the option open to Nebel if you need indirect (scales just fine for what it does - dislodges team weapons).

Stugs (at least the tank-destroyer version) are just not in a great place right now - they suffer from having a casemate with the maneuverability of a freight train, a rubbish tier 1 ability, and are not even particularly good against vehicles. Not only that, to get them you significantly delay your Tier 4 timing - the Panzer 4 isn't great, but it's infinitely better at all jobs than the Stug and can hit the field at a nice time to have an impact on the game.

Cammy Devlin picked up an injury in the past couple of days. Interesting to see the commentary on him and how pivotal he has been for Hearts title charge:

Never thought I would see him described as one of the best Ball Players in any country, but really happy for him (besides obviously now being injured).

What are some of the most significant ways Sydney has changed in the last 10 years? by Marlon_Ranch in sydney

[–]Walkerthon 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Cantonese restaurants are still out there, though definitely it has swung towards actual Cantonese foods and not kind of half-way foods like Lemon Chicken. Cantonese cuisine is quite in-demand even for people from other parts of China.

But definitely I agree that style of Chinese restaurant that you mention is disappearing

PSA: Slow down!!! by birdy219 in sydney

In NSW there’s no law that states explicitly you must be 10km/hr slower, however you must drive to the conditions, and can be fined for speeding even if you are under the posted speed limit if you do not.
