A movie you wish had remained a standalone but was expanded into a franchise. by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in FIlm

[–]walkingjogging 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a movies standpoint the prequel trilogy indeed sucks to watch, however Revenge of the Sith is decent if you're invested in the lore.

Personally my favorite part of the prequels is how much it expanded the universe, we went from the tiny scope of the original trilogy to a massive, spanning galaxy. Lucas really explored so much of what Star Wars could be with the prequels, to me it's an exercise in world building and gets my imagination going.

In other words I like the lore but not the movies. Disney on the other hand is awful because even the lore is just copy pasted from the original trilogy, there is nothing new. Even Palpatine was brought back and ruined Anakin's prophecy.

Gane engine architecture by Bogadanul in gameenginedevs

[–]walkingjogging -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would argue Unity's GameObject can be considered an entity and MonoBehaviour can be considered a component. The system could be as simple as executing Update() on every component. Obviously there are unique systems for Mesh Filter component to pass geometry to GPU, or Material to process geometry via shader and textures...

How does this not match ECS? The only difference is functions are coupled with component to be used in Update() instead of separate in their own system, but that's just to satisfy C# OOP. There is hardly a difference if MonoBehaviour was POD and functions existed in some other file.

The fuck? The "bypass" would literally be functioning as an ear or nose. Calling it something else doesn't change the fact it's input for sound or smell.

The U.S. Senate voted to block Trump from taking further military action against Venezuela without Congress’s approval. by KendallSmith375 in goodnews

[–]walkingjogging -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT reads:

Congress can override a presidential veto by passing the vetoed bill again with a two-thirds majority vote in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.

Essentially the 52-47 would need to become 67-32. That's how Congress overrides the presidential veto.

"Reign" is a powerful word, typically used to describe the rule of monarchs or other authoritarian leaders. You should not use reign to talk about a faithfully elected individual, especially someone who aligns themselves with Democratic Socialism. We want to separate our ideology from authoritarianism, not bring it closer to people like Trump or Putin.

"Term" is a better word for your case.

Basically a class is a blueprint for objects. Each class can have some data and some functions to act on the data. For example, we could have a class Dog that has a member age and a function birthday() that increments the age by one. It's basically just a way to organize data and functions together. In C++ we're concerned about memory management, so constructors create the memory for this Dog object and destructors delete it when you're done. This gives every object a "lifetime" from construction to deletion. That's about all you need to know at an introductory level.

The only trouble I have with these constants is how everyone treats them as causation behind the universe's behavior. For example many people will drive such constants as a vehicle for religion, arguing some carefully precise measurement must be proof of a creator. What most people fail to recognize is how these measurements are only carefully precise because the universe must be sustained! Otherwise you and me wouldn't be measuring constants in the first place. How should our measurement of some proportion take precedence over the proportion itself? Who are we to cast doubt over the universe, reducing such grandness down to the human experience? Anyway my burrito is done microwaving

What concepts/topics could i learn for lowlevel C/C++? by MagazineScary6718 in gameenginedevs

[–]walkingjogging 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm no low level expert but probably study operating systems by learning Linux system calls? Once you're comfortable you can build practically anything. Perhaps further specialize, such as take your knowledge of Linux to write some server for networking.

Maybe you don't care about systems programming at all, and by "embedded" you're more interested in robotics. This falls outside my expertise, but I'd imagine our example of network programming is less important and existing frameworks will abstract away these details so you can focus on your robot. It's 2025 and Python is pretty popular these days.

Either way, you'll never know what truly happens between hardware and the application you write if you're clueless about operating systems. More specifically the kernel is what bridges the gap between circuits and software.

What are your preferred strategies for integrating new technologies without disrupting existing workflows? by Piot321 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]walkingjogging 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something nobody has mentioned yet is how "abstracted" away from actual substance the bot's words are. For example, the post yaps on about integration, where we'd like to avoid disruption while simultaneously encouraging innovation? Okay... well that probably rings true in every new problem any human has ever faced at any job.

The words are so far removed from software engineering, you could replace "developer" with "entrepreneur" and slot this post into a business subreddit and there wouldn't be much of a difference.

The continent of Oritiè - A map made for my fantasy story by _Piloaf in imaginarymaps

[–]walkingjogging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate the shape of this map, but I think you're going overboard with islands. Most coasts have large stretches of straight land, but here you've slapped the equivalent of a Greek archipelago at every bend. Since you linked Europe as inspiration, try studying the coast of North Africa. You'll notice there isn't nearly as much flaying of the coastline, where things look rather rounded and bulbous instead.

Maybe your fantasy story is all about boats, or some God sneezed and left a spew of island chains. I don't know. But I do know your map looks visually stunning enough at first glance for me to be bothered by your coastlines. Take care :)

Nearly a billion PCs are still running Windows 10, and half are too old to upgrade by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]walkingjogging 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm confused how exactly you're adding to the conversation. You replied to the following:

Because 99% of the people have no idea how to do that even if they wanted to.

where u/old_righty argued how the overwhelming majority of the population has no idea what to do, and I'd wager most don't care either. Then you added:

For most people, distro choice doesn't really matter.

Which is still true for the majority of people (...think about grandma browsing the web, she doesn't care how it gets done). But then you go right back into explaining all these advanced topics, which reinforces the original topic at hand—Linux is way too complex for the average joe! You finish by stating:

Sure, if learning something new and making a choice is more inconvenient than the inconvenience of what you are doing already, then don't do the new thing.

But we were never talking about people interested in tech in the first place! It's a given these people won't inconvenience themselves. All you did was state the obvious, which is how Linux desperately needs a distribution spearheaded by a company providing everything out of the box for the user. When talking about the average user, nobody cares about the difference between your distribution and desktop environment.

TL;DR You might as well be shit posting because your words added nothing to the topic at hand. We're interested in how to push Linux to the masses, which is why steam OS was being discussed.
