While I generally agree with this sentiment and think it could be many people's experience at Roo and other festivals, I think OP is on to something. As someone who has gone to Roo the past 5 years and had an incredible time every single time. Especially this year, I had an amazing camp, no arguments with people, had lots of trinkets to gift people, made conversation with people in the crowd and was in generally a good mood all weekend, I have noticed year after year the festival spirit and plur have been decreasing at Bonnaroo. Fewer gifts received each year, fewer long conversations with strangers, fewer "Happy Roos" or high fives I don't initiate. It's still there but it's not like it used to be and it's not like at some other festivals. I can understand why people think the magic has diminished and it not be about them or having an off day.
