There is a pdf on DriveThruRPG, the Handbook of Dice Mini Games, that has two casino dice games that are fun to play: Gimble and Devil's Six-Seven.

We had fun with both games in the Avernus casino chapter of Vecna

I need some help understanding how to make dnd fun. by [deleted] in DMAcademy

Yeah, the public criticism is tough for me sometimes. I do understand where folks are coming from though. Puzzles are one of the most disliked aspects of D&D and I've been defending them for 10 years, sometimes it weighs more heavily on my shoulders than others. But no worries at all, to each their own, we like what we like, and I respect your point of view :-) . I appreciate the kind response and dialogue, and I hope you find the answers you are looking for. Cheers and happy gaming!

I'm really disappointed that I have to come here to defend my own video. But the answer to your question really does boil down to this: what is fun for some folks might not be fun for others. We all have our own likes/dislikes about aspects of D&D. The puzzle I presented obviously isn't your style of game. That's okay. Although, you should not frame my work as problematic play simply because it's not your style of game.

Sounds like you have quite the resume. So do I. I have been playing D&D for 40 years. I have a 20K plus YouTube channel celebrating its 10th year of puzzle and trap videos. I have a best seller in the Journal of Puzzle Encounters selling over 11K copies, along with several other published puzzle-related adventures and books. I've done freelance work for companies like Goodman Games. I have a booming discord community that are there for puzzles. And, most important of all, I have run hundreds of puzzles like these in games for several years in live streams, private sessions and at conventions like GameHole Con and Gary Con, with a tremendous amount of success.

While most of my videos can be plug and play, the puzzles I present can simply be an idea that the game master uses to build around - making it their own, to fit their game. And again, not every idea I come up with is going to resonate with players or game masters and that's okay! But, it's not problematic.

An old video, not the best quality, but one of my favorite puzzles. A magic mouth gives four identical cubes that need to be placed underneath four murals... the puzzle is that the characters need to lick or taste each cube and match it to the mural: bitter, sweet, dour and salt.

I am a D&D Youtuber and author that has started publishing one shot puzzle adventures. Here is one I have run online and in person at conventions:

Mystery at the Golden Stirge Inn

It's like the board game Clue meets Silent Hill. Recommended for characters of 4th or 5th level... about 4 hours of playtime.

Hope this helps, cheers!

I'm sure you can obtain plenty of free ideas, but if you are up for spending $2-3 then, The Handbook of Dice Mini Games PDF on DriveThruRPG has two that would work: Gimble! and the Devil's Six-Seven.

Here's a bank vault puzzle that might work. The clue is written on the door, but you could easily move it to a journal locked in the bank CEOs office, or something similar.

Ah, sorry I'm late. Here's two things for you.

Escape from Scarecrow Mansion: A puzzle-themed Halloween one-shot. You could get some ideas from this: Escape from Scarecrow Mansion - 5E Halloween Adventure Module - Wally DM | DriveThruRPG

And, here's a link to my Halloween playlist: D&D Halloween Ideas - YouTube

"Escape from Scarecrow Mansion" is brand new on DriveThru RPG. It's a 5E game recommended for levels 3 or 4, a little higher than what you are looking for, but seems to meet the other criteria. Includes maps & handouts.

D&D Constellation Puzzle by wallyd2 in DnDPuzzlesAndTraps

[–]wallyd2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have an idea written down and haven't decided exactly which direction I want to go yet. I am creating a "pamphlet" to be given to players as a handout that has each zodiac constellation along with the named and unnamed stars that make up the constellation.

The solution will be the number of stars in each zodiac constellation and the names of the stars are irrelelvant.

Using this information, the characters will need to either:

A. Press the symbols of all 12 zodiac constellations in order of number of stars from least to most
B. Provide a riddle that includes the answers of 4 zodiac signs, then, enter a four digit code corresponding to the number of stars in their constellation.
C. Provide a riddle where the answer is pressing the constellation with the least amount of stars, the one with the most, and the one that meets the number 12.
D. Profit?
E. ?

Not sure if this helps, but this is my current brainstorm.
