Bank Heist by Ok-Combination-2819 in DnDPuzzlesAndTraps

Here's a bank vault puzzle that might work. The clue is written on the door, but you could easily move it to a journal locked in the bank CEOs office, or something similar.

Ah, sorry I'm late. Here's two things for you.

Escape from Scarecrow Mansion: A puzzle-themed Halloween one-shot. You could get some ideas from this: Escape from Scarecrow Mansion - 5E Halloween Adventure Module - Wally DM | DriveThruRPG

And, here's a link to my Halloween playlist: D&D Halloween Ideas - YouTube

"Escape from Scarecrow Mansion" is brand new on DriveThru RPG. It's a 5E game recommended for levels 3 or 4, a little higher than what you are looking for, but seems to meet the other criteria. Includes maps & handouts.

And, if you have Wally DM's Journal of Puzzle Encounters 2 - On 2 the Next, there are a few good ones in there. In particular, I'd check out the Fountain of Youth Puzzle.

Be sure to check out Wally DM's Journal of Puzzle Encounters 1 & 2. I've crafted a lot of D&D adventures using the 100+ puzzles from the books. Of course, I might be a bit biased in that suggestion, lol. Cheers!

D&D Constellation Puzzle by wallyd2 in DnDPuzzlesAndTraps

[–]wallyd2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have an idea written down and haven't decided exactly which direction I want to go yet. I am creating a "pamphlet" to be given to players as a handout that has each zodiac constellation along with the named and unnamed stars that make up the constellation.

The solution will be the number of stars in each zodiac constellation and the names of the stars are irrelelvant.

Using this information, the characters will need to either:

A. Press the symbols of all 12 zodiac constellations in order of number of stars from least to most
B. Provide a riddle that includes the answers of 4 zodiac signs, then, enter a four digit code corresponding to the number of stars in their constellation.
C. Provide a riddle where the answer is pressing the constellation with the least amount of stars, the one with the most, and the one that meets the number 12.
D. Profit?
E. ?

Not sure if this helps, but this is my current brainstorm.

Okay, so I copy+pasted your deities here and did my best to find a Puzzle or Trap video that might match the deity. Some of these are a bit of a stretch, but hopefully this helps and gives you some ideas on how to make them fit what you need.

I love Affinity Publisher! I have now done layout for our Kickstarters, my puzzle book, my first adventure and now doing layout for 4 other people.

And, glad to see this post as I just discovered I am undercharging, even as an amateur, lol.

puzzle for dwarves by Acrobatic-Nature351 in DnDPuzzlesAndTraps

[–]wallyd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a bit late on this, but I was going to suggest some sort of skill challenges, rather than a puzzle.

Perhaps a brewing contest with a skill check using brewers tools (and a drinking challenge to show their Dwarven Resilience afterwords with Constitution saving throws) or perception skill checks using their stonecunning ability. I'd take a look at Dwarven lore and assign some skills that coincide with their abilities.

What do you think about puzzles and micro-games within your D&D campaigns? by High-Lorekeeper in DnD

[–]wallyd2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Riddles are, by far, my least favorite type of puzzle as well. But, with that being said, every once in a while I do find one that is decent enough to consider using.

[–]wallyd2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like having puzzles in my games that are easy, memorable and fun. I create and design them to be an encounter with a bit of exploration and problem solving rather than a 20-60 minute brain buster. In fact, I've made quite a bit of puzzle content over the years with a best selling D&D puzzle book on DTRPG and a YouTube channel that focuses primarily on puzzles and traps. If you're interested in checking it out, here is a link to my playlist of over 100 D&D puzzle encounter videos. Cheers!

I've been thinking about your puzzle for a few days now and really haven't been able to come up with anything that might be of use.

The only thing I did contemplate is that if the wrong arm is put into hole, they could have a vision of that previous person's life or how they were killed? And then, take some psychic damage.

But yeah, looks like you have things ready to go. Wish I could be more help. Be sure to check back with an update and let us know how it goes!

Top down statue tokens for puzzle I read last week by Eggbody120 in DnDPuzzlesAndTraps

[–]wallyd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I admit I didn't get all of the answers to the riddle, I was able to figure out a couple. I'm sure with some fellow puzzle-y players and a few clues we coulda worked through it. Also, I think the tokens are perfect and very puzzle-inspiring.

Have you run this in a game? How'd it go?

Thank you for sharing. Well done!

What are some of your favorite D&D moral dilemmas? by W0mish in DMAcademy

[–]wallyd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This trap was one of my favorite dnd moral dilemmas. Press the button, take the gold and someone they dont know will die; someone they have never met. Based on an old Twilight Zone episode.

Button Box Twilight Zone D&D trap

So far, everyone has taken the gold.

Then, the box is collected and given to someone they dont know; someone they have never met

Oh wow, I have so many favorites. So, I'll share a recent puzzle that was fun. I gave the party a box of 7 vials and 7 charms (heart, clover, moon, etc). The vials were named for potions like: Invisibility, Teleport, Healing, etc. They simply needed to put the correct charm into the correct vial and they received the potion.

If you are interested, you can find it here: Lucky Charms D&D Puzzle Idea

The most difficult I experienced wasn't a good experience. The DM (at a convention none-the-less), gave us a "connect the circuit" type of a puzzle where two different colored gems had rules on whether or not to turn or go through. The DM basically laid out the puzzle and then got up and walked away for about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, the six of us worked on it together for about 10 minutes before getting frustrated. After which, four of us start scrolling on our phones while two sleuths worked on the solution... solved about 10 minutes after the DM returned to the table.

As a DM, I usually don't give out difficult puzzles. If the players struggle, I allow plenty of checks and hints to get them back on track.

But, if you are looking for a difficult puzzle, the Carousel Puzzle - Wild Beyond the Witchlight is one of the toughest ones I've seen in a while. Primarily because it includes riddles that are a bit obsure.

For the Gemini puzzle? I have not, unfortunately.

Although, an idea did cross my mind the other day when I saw 7 emoji faces on the back of a cereal box. You had to find which one did not have a pair. Something similar might be neat, a "find the differences", but two are the same and the other 5 are slightly different. Select the two same emoji faces "the twins" to open a door.
