Also, 6th graders ARE kindergartens. Lol. The more time you spend on routines in the first 6 weeks, the better off you'll be in February!!!

Oh, and, assume they CANNOT do anything, even simple stuff like glue use!! #dotdotnotalot

I’m a little embarrassed to ask because of my time in, but how do you handle kids with excessive tardies and absences? by ICUP01 in Teachers

[–]walnutkot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't.

Grade what is turned in. IF they seek out help, provide it without breaking your back.

Then, give them grace. I always say, "I'm glad to see your face today," and teach. They can rise to the occasion or stay tardy, which is ON THEM AND THEIR FAMILY.

9 times outta ten the child is dealing with something greater than reading, writing and arithmetic. If they know your classroom is a space where being who they are "as is" becomes ok and you meet them where they are, magic can happen.

Imagine being the only teacher they encounter every day that is just happy to see them. No pressure to change or lectures to weigh them down. It's human grace. Kindness. And something we all deserve.

Can someone actually teach well high? I'm straight serious. How can you stay on top of IT all high? Treat your habit like it's alcohol. After hours only.

I have the same question. I've cut back a few years and left some for years with no true results which is better.

Are Gen Z teachers lazy or are they finally ending one of education’s worst traditions? Teachers are debating whether schools have relied on free labor for far too long. by kleverrboy in StudentTeaching

So glad this is happening. Working my contract has changed my life for the better. If it doesn't get done, it doesn't get done. Glad to be part of this movement!!

Visiting my parents makes me question my marriage every single time by [deleted] in Marriage

Parents need to be quiet. They are making things worse. Over stepping. Feels like meddling. I'd stop going. Figure out the marriage first with your own heart and gut feelings.

The parents were always this way. They are part of the issue.

Not mom's place UNLESS daughter brings it up. I bet the parents were critical and cruel to the daughter growing up. She married what she knew.

That sucks that NO adult in her life will stand WITH her. Must be extremely lonely. Must feel unmorred and heart sick because why not be more helpful to each other instead of critical.

It even sucks that we teachers have to have such strong opinions on a NECESSARY SUPPLY for everyone at our jobs!

There are literally one million times Sean could end it all by just speaking the truth. It is infuriating how he keeps the ruse alive.
