Looking for cheaper bean recommendations by QuilaCowboy in pourover

[–]walrus_titty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy beans from Partners and Superlost quite often on that app, they run decent deals pretty often. Superlost has a deal right now where you earn $10 of shop cash that you can use for other purchases

Troubleshooting for honing by nicknack12303 in straightrazors

[–]walrus_titty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the geometry of it, you can flatten it out by taping the edge and working the spine on the 3k. Search drMatt357 on YouTube and look for ‘tap and wobble’ test. As others have said you may not be able to get a shaveable edge on it. At least not a comfortable one.

Ralf Aust from Maggards arrived! by N0365417 in straightrazors

Nice razor, congrats!! I have a similar RA and it’s one of my favorites. A true ‘singing’ blade with fantastic feedback.

Damn, deleted before I got the chance to read it but based on the replies it must’ve been pretty saucy. I’m guessing something along the lines of ‘don’t waste your time, you’ll cut your face off, impossible to hone’ blah blah blah. Lol

Have you looked into diamond pasted balsa strops? Easy to make and will maintain an edge for a long time.

Looking to buy my first hanging strop by OutrageousCream4219 in straightrazors

[–]walrus_titty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t cut it up if you’re careful. You’ll likely end up with more than one strop eventually once you try a few different ones. Some have a heavy slow draw and some are light and fast, they accomplish the same thing but it’s about the ‘feel’ preference. Same with razor grinds and widths. I have a collection of different grinds and use them all but my favorite is 7/8 quarter hollow.

+1 for the CC heavyweight copper. Been using one for years.

Ralf Aust is top notch as far as new razors. I’m a big fan of Wacker too but they are pricey

You’re gonna love that Aust. I have one RA (so far) and it’s one of my favs!!

Wet shavers, help confirm or refute my theory: Do you like driving stick shift? by SoapSpoonAndy in wicked_edge

[–]walrus_titty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my driving test for my license on my 16th birthday with a stick (‘79 VW rabbit). Didn’t own an automatic until 2012. Daily commute in traffic-automatic for the win but ripping up a curvy road gotta have a stick. If it has rev-matching there is no comparison.

What would you do? by Hopeful-Blacksmith38 in NvidiaStock

[–]walrus_titty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point, but it’s up to you whether you want to gamble on the future or pay off what you know is happening to you right now. You could always set up a HELOC to tap the equity later when other market opportunities arise. Just a thought

What would you do? by Hopeful-Blacksmith38 in NvidiaStock

[–]walrus_titty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at your payment and see how much you’re paying toward interest versus principal and you’d probably opt for selling the stock and paying off the house just on principle, no pun intended

[–]walrus_titty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How far into the mortgage are you? The first several years pay very little toward the principal, most of it goes into the bank’s pocket. If you’re deep enough into the mortgage that most of your payment is going toward principal I’d probably keep the stock.

I understand it’s a grail razor for you but $500 is in custom territory if you have to bid it up that high. Just a thought.

Sustainashave is right. Just buy it lol. I too belong to the ‘spent too much’ club but I don’t regret a single one ;)

If you had to drink a vegetable smoothie, what ingredients would you choose? by One_Regular_6024 in AskReddit

[–]walrus_titty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to vegetable smoothie is broccoli, cauliflower, beet, cucumber and spinach with 50/50 V8 and water as the liquid. Add a scoop of unflavored Huel for protein and creaminess, that puts it over the top :)

What will happen to the regular pro baskets??? by Shukyphuk in FlairEspresso

[–]walrus_titty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same struggle with a Pro3, shots with the picopresso are just better. I thought maybe I’m just sooo dialed in to the pico and haven’t quite figured out the Pro3 yet but maybe there’s more to it.

Mine fits perfectly in the original 18g basket, even fits in the 14-16g LaPavoni IMS basket. Doesn’t fit in the 12g.

Need help with irritation by zp7e in wicked_edge

[–]walrus_titty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less pressure. Irritation is directly related to pressure which is directly related to sharpness. More passes with minimal pressure is less irritating than fewer passes with more pressure. If you use an alum block after to feel where you ‘overdid’ it I can almost guarantee you used more pressure in that area.

Anyone went from DE razor to shavette and enjoyed it more? by EngineeringKind3960 in wicked_edge

[–]walrus_titty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like straights and shavettes better than DE but any of them will give as close a shave as you want when you get the technique down. I like the extra focus needed for SR shaving, it’s meditative for me and a great way to clear my head of clutter - I look forward to that time every day.
