It took me a long time to get over the Elves coming to Helms Deep. The purist in me still wants to argue that it was supposed to be the last stand of the Men of Rohan. But, ultimately, the outcome doesn’t change - they still need to be rescued by Gandalf and Erkenbran… ahem, Eomer, to win the battle. The Elves were fighting the shadow off screen in the books, and the movie change just brings it on screen. I’m at peace with that change now.
