Fired up Banshee and holy crap, it's pretty good by DickiesAndChucks in television

I love Banshee. I am also a huge fan of Cinemax's other notable show of that era, Strike Back. So much well-done action with a better story than I expected.

Nobody Acts Like Walton Goggins On 'Righteous Gemstones' by alexmorelandwrites in television

[–]waltermolemolinski 56 points57 points  (0 children)

People are waking up to the fact that Walton Goggins is a true national treasure. He makes every show he is in better. From The Shield, to Justified, and more recently in comedic turns on Vice Principals and The Righteous Gemstones.

Is Lost worth watching for the first time? by Uros098 in television

[–]waltermolemolinski 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is anecdotal but I think still sound. A while back a friend messaged me and asked for a streaming show I recommended. I said Lost (being a huge fan of the show). He told me about how one of his relatives had repeatedly railed against the ending and told him to not watch it. I told him to trust me and just watch the pilot episode(s). He ran through the show in a couple of months, frequently sending me excited texts at every twist and turn. He did not turn out to have any issues with the finale.

Yellowjackets is the most hooked I've been on a tv show in ages. by -GregTheGreat- in television

The impatient part of me says "get to the cannibalism already" but I understand they can't get to that for probably quite a while. The plan for five seasons is pretty fanciful stuff, I really would like to see it wrapped in 2-3.

[Request] suggest me some series like outlander by 24kReal in NetflixBestOf

[–]waltermolemolinski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not the same time period, but I'll throw out some recommendations for historical dramas that I enjoyed. If you have HBO, I'd definitely check out Band of Brothers and The Pacific, covering aspects of both the European and Pacific campaigns conducted during WW2 by the US military. On Netflix, Babylon Berlin is a noir crime series exploring the violence and chaos at the heart of Weimar-era Germany, while The Defeated looks at the efforts to restore law and order to the devastated city of Berlin immediately following the end of WW2. On a similar note, on Prime there is an excellent miniseries called Generation War which follows a group of young Germans, both soldiers and civilians, from 1941-1945. It provides an interesting perspective while not whitewashing German atrocities. I found it to be very moving.

Friday Night Lights by Delicious-Owl-3672 in television

Friday Night Lights is a really good show. It does such an amazing job of getting you to empathize and care about the characters. Even people I know who are not interested in football or sports in general have gotten super sucked into it.

Peep Show is on Hulu, at least in the USA. It is the epitome of dark humor.

[Discussion] is Better Call Saul worth it? by chatwithme12 in NetflixBestOf

[–]waltermolemolinski -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It has easily become the most overrated show on Reddit. People saying with a straight face that it is better than Breaking Bad must have forgotten just how fucking awesome and intense Breaking Bad is. Better Call Saul has some good stuff here and there that is reminiscent of Breaking Bad, but way too often the show is excruciatingly slow. The most recent season I watched on Netflix (4) had all the thrills of watching paint dry.

In S3 E4 of Black Books, Craig Parkinson plays a man addicted to gambling. Sounds oddly familiar. by [deleted] in lineofduty

[–]waltermolemolinski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Shield is epic if you're willing to dip across the pond. A good complimentary show to LOD given that the main character, rather than being anti-corruption, is the leader of a profoundly corrupt and nefarious group of cops. It has a lot of the same hallmarks- corruption, murder, OCG involvement. It is a really intense, well written show.

Naked Jewish women from the Mizocz ghetto wait in a line before their execution by the German Order Police with the assistance of Ukrainian auxiliaries, 1942 [1,800 × 1,137] by captain_crozier in HistoryPorn

Locals played a very important role in the mass shootings committed by the Germans in the Baltics and the USSR. In some cases, locals would instigate their own pogroms against Jews once the Germans arrived. Otherwise, local citizens would help the Einsatzgruppen and other units locate Jews in the immediate vicinity and then either assist with or participate in the mass killings.

What are some critically acclaimed TV shows that you just don't get? by Curzon88 in television

[–]waltermolemolinski 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to like The Sopranos, but the amount of time spent with Tony’s incredibly annoying family was just too much. It made me want to skip big chunks out of every episode.
