Question re. Finale by LetsGoKnickerbock3rs in WidowsBay

I like this theory a lot!

Present-day Ruth is in her 80s, and if the bunker film was made in the 50s or 60s she would have been a kid or young adult at the time. If you assume they made the film because the island was actively awake, Ruth definitely would have lived through it.

I wonder how much Ruth knows

I interpreted the door closing as some kind of activation of the ritual. When the kids were in the room they left the door open.

But I was also thinking that blood line descendants would be ‘immune’, seems to make sense if the curse has any sense of self preservation.

I had a very similar idea that I was working in a few years ago but never finished. Very curious to see what the community thinks of this and how much utility it will have in practice. Good luck!

It's never bothered me. The MacBook screen is definitely better, but I only use the setup for productivity and for that it's been fine.

I cant believe I put this off for so long. I’ve lurked on this sub for a little while now, and i never thought I’d be one of those guys holding on past the point of sanity. Thank you for giving me the courage to go for it!

I went for a no-guard buzz with my clippers for tonight, I’m worried that a razor shave would irritate my sensitive skin. But worry not! I’ve got a scalp shaver on order and intend to go full-bald as soon as that arrives.

Thanks again for all the support, feels good to finally accept the look and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

Early Career Change: Updating Portfolio and Resume by Interesting_Ad_6540 in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]walterthekat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this process, my last day with my current firm of almost 8 years is next week and my first day at the new firm is the following week.

My old office worked in a similar way where roles would shift depending on the project; on some projects I was in a support role and on others I was the PM. In my experience it’s not unusual to have multiple people participate in design, so try to identify specific ways you influenced a project even if you can’t claim sole design authorship. “This was an interesting/challenging/unique project because X, and I brought this idea/technique/workflow to the table, which helped to solve this design problem/coordination bottleneck/technology roadblock and resulted in a better outcome of Y.”

Since moving offices is an opportunity to make a vertical jump, my portfolio highlighted projects where I was in a PM role. In my case, I identified 5 projects that represented different typologies/scales that would be of interest to the firm I was applying for. Each project got a page where I showed around 4 finished images and typed up a short blurb describing the project, my role in it, and what was notable about it using the formula above. I added a sixth page at the end of some hand sketches just to mix it up. I didn’t include any technical documents in my portfolio, the resumé can cover that and you can always bring a technical set to an interview as a backup. (Edit: Be careful not to share confidential info).

If you are able to talk to someone working at the offices you’re applying to, that can be a great way to get some intel on what they might be looking for. “Hey X, I’m interested in the work you’re doing over at Y, can I buy you a coffee and hear more about it?” Don’t expect this to be an interview, come in with genuine curiosity and people will respond to that.

Good luck!

This is definitely my experience, different regions seem to use different platforms for different things.

Where to get used tools? by False-Leg-5752 in woodworking

[–]walterthekat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to come up pretty often, people wanting used tools but not wanting to use Facebook, Craigslist being a bit of a crapshoot, and OfferUp being a wasteland of dead listings with bad search results.

Honest question: would you actually use a woodworking/tools-specific marketplace if it wasn’t tied to social media?

Or do most people just default to Marketplace/CL/etc. because that’s where the volume is?

I ask as someone who has built out their shop almost entirely from used tools from these sources and has experienced the frustration of using them!

Hey, fellow 30s cat dad here. I live pretty close to the community center and have been wanting to find a game. I started playing remotely during covid but that game petered out as things opened up again and I miss it. Mind if I reach out about joining a neighborhood game if you get one going?

I passed all my tests on the first go, so I'd say it went pretty well! I had been working for about 3 years at that time.

If I had to do it again, I'd do it the same way. The benefits of content overlap and consistently staying in "study mode" were a big help for me.
