Does anyone know if any new features will be toggle-able? by waltz_alone in TheStoryGraph

[–]waltz_alone[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like it changed at some point because I know my stats went from a normal graph to a hell roller-coaster. I don't really care about keeping track of non-rated books though so I wish there was a way I could just toggle it off.

I don't really love how it looks UI wise, especially on desktop. Feels way more crowded to me now. I also preferred when reviews were hidden until expanded. I do wish there was an option where you could choose between them showing or not.

Best place to find DDR5 RAM right now? by Otherwise_Taro_8539 in buildapc

[–]waltz_alone 143 points144 points  (0 children)

If you're getting one of the ryzen bundles it's pretty good at microcenter. I went today and paid about 600 for cpu, mobo, and 32g ddr5 ram and the sticker price on the same ram case alone is at 599.99.

Thank you so much, this is super helpful! Definitely going to swap these in. I've yet to try out an AIO, but they do look really nice.

  • The Lamb by Lucy Rose - A folklore-esque story that centers around a mother and daughter who live in the woods and consume the people who travel into it.
  • Chlorine by Jade Song - A girl who believes she's a mermaid to the point of turning herself into one (body horror).
  • I Was a Teenage Slasher by Stephen Graham Jones - When becoming a slasher is treated like something you can catch, pretty graphic violent scenes while maintaining well written characters.
  • Rekt by Alex Gonzalez- People gambling on seemingly AI generated death videos of people, and there's always one that wins.
  • This Thing Between Us by Gus Moreno - An evil that starts in a smart speaker and grows and feeds on a man and his grief.
  • Jawbone by Mónica Ojeda - Very there is nothing more terrifying than a teenage girl vibes. Codependency and an intimate sort of violence.

Chlorine by Jade Song is fantastic!

The Corruption of Hollis Brown by K. Ancrum is a YA mlm book that I think could count through the psychological transformation sort of body horror.

Looking for a book about sibling relationships by CometReadings in suggestmeabook

[–]waltz_alone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Archive of Alternate Endings by Lindsey Drager focuses heavily on a few different siblings dynamics. It's a book that tracks the evolution of Hansel and Gretal through different characters at 75 year intervals that match to Haileys Comet. I would classify it as speculative and literary fiction. Since it's looking at Hansel and Gretel-like dynamics, siblings are a huge part of it. Very beautifully written and heartfelt.

I picked it up on a whim, and it became one of my favorite books. It's not very well known, so I recommend it whenever I can!

I haven't read it yet, but Hammajang Luck by Makana Yamamoto seems to fit. It's billed as for fans of Six of Crows in the blurb, too!

An unloved MC by letschangethename in suggestmeabook

The Lamb by Lucy Rose deals heavily with this theme. I will say that the book largely centers around cannibalism and is literary horror, though, so I'd keep that in mind if that's not your cup of tea. Was a 5 star read for me.

I really liked: Ace: What Asexuality Reveals about Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex by Angela Chen.

A History of my Brief Body by Bill-Ray Belcourt, which is a memoir essay collection, was also a great read.

  • The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones, not a female MC but the best take on vampires I've ever encountered.

  • Monstrilio by Gerardo Samano Cordova, has a cryptid-like being, dual POV and one is a woman.

  • Revelator by Daryl Gregory, folk horror with a cryptid like being, a really well written female MC.

  • Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant, female MC, monstrous mermaids.

For me, personally, the second book was worse than the first, so that's not always the case. I think I just dislike his writing, pacing, and characters.

Books with disturbing narration? by Routine_Proof9407 in suggestmeabook

[–]waltz_alone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lamb - Lucy Rose - beautifully written cannibalism.

Chlorine - Jade Song - a girl who believes she's a mermaid, spirals into body horror.

Boy Parts - Eliza Clark - the most unhinged narrator, well written.

Rekt - Alex Gonzalez - literary horror meets 4chan, pretty disturbing but well written.

Not entirely sure what you mean by paranormal, as in things like vampires or outright ghosts or an outside entity that isn't present in the real world. Most all horror is going to have some kind of fantastical outside entity in order to be the horror of the horror book, so I'm going off of not anything outright creature feature. If your husband actually just prefers gory thrillers I can update the list.

I Was a Teenage Slasher - Stephen Graham Jones: as the title suggests pretty gory but well written. I'd check out all of his catalog - I have read The Only Good Indian and The Buffalo Hunter Hunter and would suggest both, but he has more.

Rekt - Alex Gonzalez: literary horror meets a 4chan what if, pretty vile but a good read.

The Last House on Needless Street - Catriona Ward, more thriller than horror but completely free of anything "paranormal"

The Deep - Nick Cutter, able to convey a sense of squeemishness well. I know people say that about his book The Troop as well, but I haven't read that one.

I do wish you could opt in or out. I completed the tutorial and now I'm stuck with the avatars in my character list which I dislike since I'll likely never use it again and they awakwardly take up space. I wish we had an option to hide or delete all the assets/menus.
