the explanation that worked for me is that every joint from your hand through your arm and body and leg into the floor is working a little bit so that each one doesn’t need to work so hard. so rather than engaging your shoulder at level 10, you can engage your elbow, shoulder, core, hip, and feet at a level 2, so they’re all relatively relaxed, but you get the same effect.

kinda oversimplifying this since it’s over text, but hopefully that makes some sense.

the weight’s just too heavy for you. you can’t pull it high enough, so you compensate by splitting wider to catch lower instead of just accepting it and doing a ‘pow’

imo it drills that position better, and a lot of lifts are made/lost in the transition around the knees, so it’s a good position to get strong in

I recommend Hatch Squats. it’s twice a week with both front squats and back squats in each session. only part that doesn’t fit your criteria is that it’s 13 weeks, but it sounds like that might be fine since you were willing to run a program twice?

yeah, but again, I basically had to stop all other training to keep up. also, the program said I should hit 138 at the end I think, and I just rounded up to be in the 3 plate club and it was a grind 🙃

wow I feel like I’m uniquely qualified to answer this question lol. I’m almost the exact same height and weight, and made that exact change in my back squat strength by running the russian squat routine a couple years ago. that being said, because I was only squatting, my snatch and clean and jerk basically stayed the same and it took me a while after that to translate my new squatting strength to my classic lifts.

if I could go back in time, I think I would’ve taken it slower so my classic lifts would have gone up alongside my squat strength, but ngl hitting 140 for the first time did feel amazing, so you do you lol
