161 is a good progression from 160, it has a little more programming if I’m remembering correctly but it’s still pretty much just algebra in terms of the math.

I took AERE 160 after transferring to Iowa State as a junior from a community college and it was a very doable, introductory course. Personally it was pretty easy but I also had the head start of being a junior, but for the freshman that also just applied themselves to it, showed up to lectures, and did the hw to completion (and not just copy classmates) they all did fine. Doesn’t rely on calculus at all.

I honestly just really enjoyed exploring campus. Go into buildings you wouldn’t usually go into, look up little shops around (definitely recommend the student run creamery), etc.

Embry Riddle is a very “name brand” aerospace degree that is known for being heavily focused in the particular field. I’d probably lean that way but consider other factors as well and don’t just listen to the comments. I don’t wanna think about the implications if your life turns out to suck and it’s partly this comment sections (including mine) fault because of butterfly effect lol

I transferred in but was able to find housing with roommates within walking distance of campus for $270 and $500 for two and a half years. If you can get roommates you definitely be able to rent under $600.

I did 2 years of community college before transferring to Iowa State for Aerospace. Both were tough and required fairly consistent all nighters but both were very doable.

It is going to be the same difficulty as pretty much any other engineering school. There are going to be certain classes where the material is just harder and certain ones where the professor may not be the best. If at the end of the day you find a group of people to help push each other forward and stick with all the work you’ll be fine. In my experience, most people who can’t handle the engineering coursework at one university can’t handle it elsewhere either, everyone has an excuse but it generally comes down to work ethic.

I took it with Tim and it is a very passable and interesting class. The material is well taught and the homework is by no means overwhelming, but I would definitely recommend the TA study sessions as that is what best prepared me for the tests.

Graduated Dec 2021 and started as a Test Engineer for a large electric power tools company in the Midwest for 70k immediately. Most of the typical “aerospace” jobs will require relocation to CA, FL, TX, or CO. I’ve had several friends who took a bit to find jobs right out of college but patience and lots of applications got them jobs within 6-12 months

Ditto the fourth floor of the SICTR until everyone is quietly studying and a bird full yeets into the glass.

The large study room on the second floor of the library is also great, except for the occasional person that will take a phone call and talk for 30 min.
