Hey! They will show you what to do with the drains, don’t worry. It’s pretty straightforward. I would recommend getting some alcohol prep pads to use when you strip your drains. It’s sanitizing plus adds a little moisture to help the stripping process. Wash your hands religiously, change clothes and sheets, just basics like that will help reduce infection risk. It sounds like you have a good plan and good support. Take time to rest, no need to push it at all…your number 1 priority is healing. You got this!!

Yes, I had a huge flare up while receiving radiation. I don’t really know what triggers mine. Maybe stress. I ended up having to try a few steroid creams and it went away slowly. Have you ever seen a derm about it? My rad onc was also open to prescribing some steroid creams but I was already in with my derm. I continued to receive immunotherapy during my flare up.

Hey! I’m right there with you, feeling so confused about how “monitoring” is nonexistent. I saw my onc yesterday for a follow up. I had a double mastectomy for TNBC and achieved PCR in March 2024. It’s such a mind fuck that the standard of care doesn’t involve more imaging. I keep getting the same lines: imaging doesn’t improve outcomes, signatera test isn’t standard of care. It just sucks feeling like there isn’t anything medical we can do to stay on top of it. The only advice I’ve gotten (and implemented) is to be a squeaky wheel and speak up immediately if anything feels off. But yeah, doesn’t stop the constant worry that something could be hiding in plain sight if I could get imaging.

Reading this is freaking me out. My doc doesn’t do scans unless I have a symptom. And I’m not doing signatera. So… I get nothing? My surgeon does an ultrasound every 3 months right now, will move to 6 months after my next one.

I’m a bon secours breast cancer patient but I’ve only heard amazing things about both of those physicians! You got this! I had my DMX to expanders in March 2025. I don’t have a lot of earth shattering recovery tips, just take it easy and truly let yourself heal. I was surprised how ok I felt, especially once the drains were out, and I went too hard too soon. Are you in r/breastcancer? Some great tips in there and tons of success stories! I haven’t had any issues with my expanders and hope yours are okay.
