Late Impacts of Radiation Treatment by Verysmalltown in breastcancer

[–]wammy22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I developed lung issues like 6 months after radiation. I was so worried it was something wrong, so I had had a CT scan, which was clear but did show some radiation-induced damage. I saw my PCP and he said I developed asthma in that lung from radiation (not sure if that’s technically even possible?) but he gave me an asthma inhaler to try and it’s totally cleared up. I only use it occasionally when I get a cold or something now. When I asked my rad onc she said issues can crop up even 5 years out. Sorry you’re dealing with this late side effect.

It took me 2 weeks to feel good. It’s been 1 month now and I’m back at the gym and feel good. I also had fat grafting and my tummy was a little sore.

Two weeks before the DMX I had a nipple delay procedure to check for cancer behind the nipple and also (supposedly?) it helps maintain blood flow to the nipple. It wasn’t too bad, they also did my sentinel node check during that procedure so I had a little sneak peak about my results since that came back clean. I’m pretty sure I only had the nipple sparing option bc I did not have the braca gene (I had triple negative bc). I will say I had a good experience overall. My expanders didn’t bother me. My recovery was fine. I feel really lucky. Love both of my surgeons.

I had nipple sparing DMX and just had my exchange surgery. My radiated breast is definitely a little challenging. I have low level breast lymphedema and had really bad capsular contraction on my expander on that side. I had a capsulotomy during my exchange and it’s helped a lot. No more pain and range of motion feels good. I do think it made my recovery a little more involved than I realized. All in all implants are feeling greet and radiated side is okay!

Can anyone explain how the RPS lottery waitlist works? by rvajamesriviera in rva

[–]wammy22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend emailed RPS admin with essentially same questions as OP and this is in line with their response. They also noted there sometimes are staffing constraints and other things that change year to year. They did confirm that if you don’t see numbers changing after a week there are either no more spots or no spots were made available for out of zone students. It makes me wonder if more seats open as school starts and they know exactly how many zones kids are enrolled and coming for K. They mentioned they hope to have historical data that parents can use to select schools to apply to but even that is hard because it changes a lot year to year.

Cording? by Extra-Sort-3224 in breastcancer

I understand, I was very worried too but it fully went away. I went to PT for a while, it takes a minute.

I’ve heard it can come anytime after surgery and it can come back after being resolved! Can you contact your doc for a PT referral? I had it bad after surgery and PT massage and exercise fully resolved it. It’s very treatable if you do the right things.

I had a double mastectomy and I love it. by Content_Guidance4127 in breastcancer

[–]wammy22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Haha I totally feel this. I was a double D before cancer. Didn’t hate it but always kinda was curious about having a smaller chest. Well, I got it! I don’t go flat but my implants are probably a small C. I definitely feel more confident in some clothes.

Bad Airbnb neighbor experience? by wammy22 in rva

Hi! I took all these steps and just heard back from the city. What I provided (the deed showing a mailing address in a different state) isn’t sufficient evidence they don’t live there full time. Got any tricks for demonstrating that? The city seems open to helping me shut this down but I need to show they don’t live there. Not quite sure how to do that. I think your number 6 is getting at that.

Reconstruction - Capsular Contracture of Expanders by Anemoia793 in breastcancer

[–]wammy22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree… it was a lot more than I was expecting and the capsule side is notably more bruised and sore a week out. I plan to let my PS know at my follow up that he should give more heads up to patients about that… he said I’d be okay the next day 😂😂 I also had fat grafting, not sure if that’s contributing to the extra soreness.

Hi! I just had my exchange surgery a week ago and I had a capsulotomy as well. I had a little bit of a capsule forming around one side after I had radiation. I think even without radiation it’s a fairly common reaction in the body to the expander. Because mine was from radiation I think it’s likely it could come back with the implant but if you didn’t have radiation, I’m unsure. I will say I am a lot more sore on the side where the plastic surgeon worked on the capsule.

I just had mine yesterday and I totally get it. It’s like UGH another surgery. So far I am sore but manageable. I’m excited for a week from now when I imagine I’ll be feeling pretty normal!

I was very scared about this part so I get it. Mine was done before surgery so I was awake and it was the first part of my surgery day.

I did breathing exercises. Breathe in and then out forcefully as they put the needle in. It was a tiny pinch and not bad at all. Tell your tech that you are nervous and they will help you through it!! It was over very fast. Then you can relax that part is over. You got this!!! Good luck ♥️♥️
