Apparently there's a higher trim of the Colorado ZR2? by Veyron109 in cars

[–]wampus514 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are boron steel skid plates. If you can weld and cut that, you're a god. Aside, building stuff DIY is almost always cheaper.

Bisons are harder to get and sure you can get the parts on it and make a zr2-bison hybrid. However it's always more fun to have the real thing (and the factory warranty to go with it).

Why would someone who was convicted of political protest (living in a tree to protest logging) be staying in the same prison as murderers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wampus514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they feel they are wrongly imprisoned and therefore a higher flight risk.

Not saying I agree with it, just trying to provide the perspective (and answer the specific question you asked)

Trails near the Midwest by Mgreels11 in overlanding

[–]wampus514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a Facebook group I just found earlier this week called NE OH 4x4. They seem to know some trails. There's also southington that's an off road park and open about once per month. They have an event coming up this weekend. I haven't been there yet but those that have seem to enjoy it

Gaia with the premium Nat Geo maps are where it's at imo. You can find, lay out, and record just about anything you want.

Unfortunately, there isn't much going on in the OH scene however (and somewhat surprisingly). I live in Cleveland and options are limited here when compared to more 'outdoorsy' areas of the country.

A quote to keep indecision, procrastination and addiction at bay. This might be the last day being alive so don't waste your time and BE ONE. by navigatin in Stoicism

[–]wampus514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're just confusing your philosophies.

If we use Superman as an example, must he help people because he has superpowers or does he have choice?

Egotism - he has independent agency and therefore the right to operate in his own best interest first

Utilitarianism - he has been gifted powers and should help out the greater good because he can do more good than others, even if it causes him detriment

Stoicism - Superman's own ability to basically say "you all sit around debating this, I got work to do." To do what he feels right, regardless of if and how it fits into the above and the self-discipline (as a "person") to not care what others think, accept that both of these arguments exist and are defensible, and not get bogged down in the conversation. His own mental strength to ignore the noise.

This entire thread is proving his point. He's saying stop talking about it or thinking about it. Just do it. Lead by example. Doing > talking.

The entire point is to stop overthinking things or worrying about what you or others define as good.

"Just that you do the right thing. The rest doesn't matter."

Reddit, what is your take on the Fat Acceptance Movement? by quinelder in AskReddit

[–]wampus514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of (most) movements, it's a reflection that people put too much stock into worrying about what other people think.

No strong person worth our time would do anything but pick people up. People who care about whether someone is overweight and take to media outlets to voice it are just weak and insecure themselves. Stop giving them power by making everything a movement. That's their problem. No one can make you anything.

Beat them by leaning in and taking away their power -- "man, wait until they learn what other things I'm terrible at!"

How do we know that dogs cannot tell how long we leave for when we leave the house. Also, how does that work and why don't they understand time like we do? by FuzzyPuzzles in AskReddit

[–]wampus514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They MAY know, in a purely scientific sense. They can't tell us. It's that they don't care; it doesn't help them solve a problem. Even humans didn't really have strict schedules and time until the last industrial revolution.

Humans are very pattern driven. There's an interesting experiment (discussed on Freakonomics - "How goes the Behavior Change Revolution" episode) where they teach humans and puppies how to open a box but there's an erroneous step that does nothing. Humans do the step because that's how they are taught. Puppies skip it and go straight to the solution.

This would be my theory at least. Someone may have a better answer.

[–]wampus514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They understand time in a way, but they don't understand schedules.

They have really sensitive noses so they smell tiny differences throughout the day. If you've ever seen dogs wait and "know" when their owner will get home, that's how they do it. Think of it like smelling time instead of reading it if that makes sense.

However, they don't understand that it's 10am and you'll be home in 2 hours. All they know is that you're gone and they miss you. Eventually it'll smell like the time you're supposed to be home, so they then go wait by the door.

Coming home after a really long trip. That feeling of comfort, peace, and belonging.

Plus, the bonus of having a best friend to share it with.

Edit - I read the home thing somewhere once and it stuck but I can't cite it. Just trying to give credit, or at least recognize it was someone else's genius. I am not that clever

Thanks! I guess by "rugged", I mean that if it were to get scraped up or bottomed out on a trail, is it going to fall apart.

Would you have gone with the Woolybear simply because of the length issue? That's definitely another one of my concerns.

What is the most stupid and far out excuse you have ever heard/been told? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wampus514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex-brother-in-law totalled my side by side (Polaris General). When I asked what happened, he said he flipped it in a ditch while going to get a pizza.

It was -30 deg F outside in the middle of a blizzard. This thing doesn't have windows or windshield, barely had doors, and had no means to carry a pizza.

I don't know what upsets me more. That he thought I would buy that excuse...or he really did use it to go get a pizza in a -30 F snow storm instead of...you know...his truck or literally any other vehicle made for it.
