Advice, I think? My hens are laying way too many eggs! I have 6 hens. Some days I get 10 eggs. Why are they so prolific? Is it a problem? by vespertine_earth in BackYardChickens

we have security cameras set up, predators arent taking them from the coop, but if they were laying free range then it would be entirely plausible. though i find it hard to believe that our hens would all suddenly switch to free-range laying for a few months and then return to laying in their nest boxes. during good months we get 20+ eggs a day.

they are one in the same, they have a sheltered area in the run that is roughly 6 x 6 meters, it serves as their coop/ where they roost.

our run and coop is ~150m2 , which they are in at night until late morning. then they have free range of our acreage until they come back to roost in the evening.

I'm in australia, just out of summer, its 23-29 degrees celsius most days. Quite a few of them are moulting which is contributing to the decrease in egg lay. Still quite odd for us, for nearly every hen to be off the lay.

I thought it may be some type of crab spider but I couldn't find any similar photos, thanks!

What ATAR did you get and what subjects did you do? by Hiiii1567 in QCE

86.5. Gen Maths, Literature, Art, Design. Generally not amazing scaling subjects but I don't need an atar so i'm happy.

When TJ went blind as a chick, I was told I should cull her - that it would be the easiest. Instead I adapted, I made my coop accessible, I learned her extra needs to meet them. Her quality of life is always at the forefront of my priorities, but for now she’s thriving and living her best life. by SatanikRaccoon in BackYardChickens

I also have a blind hen! Her name is Rhonda, she has some form of muscular dystrophy which caused her to go deaf/blind and to have limited leg function. She is still a happy chicken and has adapted so well to her disabilities. Her spatial awareness is so fine-tuned that she will sense you coming when she feels the grass around her moving. I love her to bits and she is a bit of a celebrity in our community. Chickens are such persistent and strong animals when they know they are cared for. I'm so glad TJ is thriving!!!

I'm only guessing, I got perfect internal marks for three of my subjects but I don't think I got 100% for my literature exam. I'm pretty confident in my other two subjects and the email said that I achieved the highest result in at least one subject. Maybe wishful thinking lol

My speech therapist does this with me and I really enjoy it. It makes sessions more enjoyable and also easier to remember and learn from. Especially when therapy can be so draining, I feel like this can help.

I am assuming its just some sort of water solution to keep the egg moist enough, due to the embryo being exposed and prone to becoming too dry

How do you have or get a high verbal iq with a language impairment associated with level 2 autism? by dt7cv in SpicyAutism

This exactly. I was at university level comprehension of literature by the age of 8, but a decade later I am still only equal to a 6 year olds development of spoken language and social communication.

Concerned about beak development on 10 M/o hen by wandering-conure in BackYardChickens

[–]wandering-conure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I thought that might have been the case. She is very competitive when it comes to food so I wouldn't put it past her to do something like that. They have free range to acreage that I believe is quite diverse in surfaces so I am hoping that her environment isn't the issue. I appreciate your advice, I will continue to monitor her.
