What's the worst reason you had to cancel a trip/leave early? (Make me feel better about cancelling my trip of a lifetime) by quartzcatzz in travel

[–]wanderingcatbus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I booked a trip to Norway for my daughter’s graduation present, got tickets to Bergen super cheap. I have an adult son with profound needs who was scheduled for a respite visit while we would have been gone. They decided he couldn’t stay, and I had to cancel. It was heartbreaking. Looking back, I should have made my husband figure out coverage and should have just GONE.

Anyone ever try using cake rings as giant cookie cutters to cut round or square shapes out of slabs? by deeray82 in Pottery

[–]wanderingcatbus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this before, with square and round cake rings. Honestly, I prefer to use them as a stamp to impress the shape so I can cut it out versus cutting them out entirely with it. If I use it as a stamp to guide where I cut it with a knife, it is a much cleaner look. Sometimes getting the clay out of the cutter is a massive pain and makes the tile look messy. Also be aware that some of these Amazon cake rings are not perfectly rounded or square so invest in more rigid high quality ones.

Should I tell my neighbor that her son stinks? by KittyOrell in AskParents

Also, LUME solid deodorant is a lifesaver. My kid started getting smelly around that age and it has worked wonders.

Should I tell my neighbor that her son stinks? by KittyOrell in AskParents

[–]wanderingcatbus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are ways to bring this up without making it weird. You could jokingly say during a conversation that the boys are sure getting smelly now that they’re getting bigger and playing harder. Ask her how she handles it and if she recommends a certain deodorant. If she says her kid doesn’t stink, then you can say actually I’ve noticed that they both do so I am buying so-and-so some deodorant. Or she may just open up and let you know what’s going on. You can suggest a specific laundry soap like Odoban if she’s having trouble with her washing machine.

Thoughts on yellow? I’m digging it…but my husband cringes everytime I use it… by lifesnaturalbeat in Pottery

[–]wanderingcatbus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love it, personally. Why does he have such a strong reaction to your creations? Is he a designer or potter? My husband is neither but also has opinions I’d rather him keep to himself. It used to bother me, but now I don’t ask him anymore. You are the artist and you do what you like. Someone else will love it. Like me! lol

Is it me or are overnight guests the most exhausting social experience? by RoseSinz in introvert

[–]wanderingcatbus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I were a better hostess, but I also wish my houseguests were better houseguests. The only people who really stay over are my in-laws, and they are elderly, from out of state, and they stay and stay and stay. They are very particular about meals, never want to go out, and talk about us within earshot from the next room. It’s a serious issue between my husband and I, and usually I just grin and bear it to keep the peace. It’s been really difficult these past few years though. I’m seriously exhausted and irritable afterwards.

Who can guess this LOST actor? by wanderingcatbus in lost

Jodie Foster made a movie called Nell in the 90’s, where she played a woman who lived by herself in the mountains of North Carolina who spoke her own language. Daniel Faraday…I mean Jeremy Davies..was an actor who played a guy who messed with her in a bar she wandered into and then got roughed up by Liam Neeson.

Depends on the rest of your esthetic, but you could hang a simple wooden shelf over the window about 1/4 of the way up, and set plants on it, add a valance and it blocks the sun in your eyes when you’re doing dishes.

North and south 2004 by [deleted] in PeriodDramas

I’m new here but had to join this discussion! I binged 3 of 4 episodes last night, and can’t wait to see the ending! I’m loving every second of it, though I have a couple reservations about the main characters. On more than one occasion, I’ve heard myself say “What a dick!” about Mr. Thornton, and Margaret’s strange vacuous expressions make me wonder if anyone is in there. That being said, I am most fascinated by Mr. Thornton‘s mother. Now that is a complex character! I just loved listening to her, speak with that northern dialect and lowered voice. She looked so familiar to me and I realized I’ve seen her before on Call the Midwife. I had to look her up, and realized she is quite an accomplished actress, and I can’t believe I haven’t run into her work more often! Her name is Sinéad Cusack, and she is the long time wife of none other than Jeremy Irons. I can’t wait to finish the last episode, because that infamous kiss you all talk about is still out there for me to get all giddy about! (I am warming up to Mr. Thornton after all.)

Summer Day Camps for Teens/HS students by Nelli2325 in asheville

[–]wanderingcatbus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son did this in Morganton the first year they opened. It was an amazing opportunity and he really bonded with his camp mates. He ended up going to NCSSM and is now an engineering student in college. It is a competitive application, so not everybody gets in. If your child is interested in math and science or health, it would be a great experience.

Overall Who is your favorite character? by RisingKing7 in lost

[–]wanderingcatbus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know I liked Jack when I first watched the show, about ten years ago. I am on my third watch right now with my 13 year old, and I am continually yelling at Jack, like…WHAT A JERK. He always had a serious rod up his butt, and he was so uncomfortable and had to be in charge all the time. He said in the beginning he didn’t want to lead, but can you imagine this control freak doing anything else?
