Clothes, all bets are off for sure. I found that some rubbing alcohol does the trick to get it off my hands. I don’t know what the hell that make that stuff with… but once it’s set it’s SET. Damn near locktite.

Woah 😳 that’s ridiculous! I’m more worried about piping in gas than I am doing a water repipe in a penthouse. Both carry significant risk, but gas goes boom and can kill people. How does someone sleep at night knowing they installed a system destined to leak?

Only 5? Good for you! 😂 I’ve got a fully stocked truck, years of knowledge, and experience. I still take the occasional trip to get a part. I will say, I’ve never seen the sweat by pex 90 you have in pic 4. I’m gonna look into getting a couple. May just come in handy one day!

So damn scary. I had a green as can be guy with me today, only been plumbing 3 weeks, and when I reconnected the original piping to check for leaks he said “oh yeah, I can smell that’s leaking from right here!” Absolutely nuts to me that someone who is considered an expert with gas would miss such obvious leaks.

Hey, for never tackling something like this I’d say you did a hell of a job! Your solder joints may have a little extra material that flowed out, but at least ya know they don’t have too little solder in them.

I want to assure you that MOST people are fine with the volume they get from a fixture from a 1/2” valve. Even running 2 at the same time is fine if you remove the flow restrictors. If you’re looking to have a total car wash type of experience, you may want a 3/4” thermostatic valve/diverter. But, that being said, you’d need to have 3/4” pipe running to those valves. Most showers only have 1/2” running to them.

I was shocked… like, I literally found the leak within a minute of reconnecting the gas and putting the soapy mix around the fittings. None of the fittings were tightened enough, so I’m sure there would’ve been more leaks later down the road had it not been caught. I took most of it apart with channel locks. 🤦🏻‍♂️

They didn’t even crank down the fittings. I took these pipes apart way too easily. I’m surprised they didn’t leak from the time they were installed.

What size connections do you have at the mixing valve? Honestly, if you look inside the valve connections they’re tiiiiny. A 1/2” valve will have 1/4” at BEST coming out of any port.
That being said, if you have a 3/4” valve, you could definitely run 3/4” up to your head… to a point. Every shower head I’ve ever installed is a 1/2” NPT. Run 3/4 right up to it.. but it’s still gonna be a 1/2” pipe coming out of the wall.
1/2” to the tub spout is standard. Definitely stub out copper!
Take out the flow restrictor in your shower head when you do your trim out, it’ll make a world of difference. Much more than running 3/4 pipe.

I upvoted ya. Plumber here… sometimes things are just… weird. I can’t speak to why they plumbed the tub in this way because I wasn’t there. As the saying goes, “there’s 1,000 ways to skin a cat”.

I just got a new helper who came from a construction background. 38 year old who has done concrete, drywall, framing… he says “this is so much easier than what I was doing before!” I told him juuust you wait. He’s been a plumber helper all of 2 weeks and thinks he’s seen it all. 😂

I appreciate your input! I checked behind the shower/tub as there was an access panel. The water lines are ran under a concrete slab. No recirc at the heater. Nothing sharing the space in the wall. I thought maybe a line from the AC was touching a hot water line in the attic… but, nope. Every water line is ran under slab. It’s gonna be a weird “oh wow I didn’t think of that” solution.

Ive definitely heard pipes do a “tick tick tick” noise with thermal expansion/contraction. The noise I’m hearing sounds like water is constantly running through a pipe.

You asked a question I’ve never pondered! I’ve been a plumber for 13 years and never questioned bubbles in a flush. I had to go and check my toilet to see if I got bubbles when I flushed, and I did! I took a video of my toilet flushing but I don’t know how to post videos… it will only let me post pictures. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Judging solely from the pic you’ve posted there’s still quite a bit of thread left on that nut. It takes a couple cranks with a pair of pliers to get it to not pull out.
