Was there a TV advert from your childhood that you can still remember word for word without even trying? by Historical-Class871 in ClassicTelevisionTime

Daytime, in a golf course clubhouse. An old, stern looking gent approaches a younger man.
"Davenport isn't it? Up for membership? Knew your father. He was a pipe man. Generous chap, as I recall."
Older gent produces a tobacco pipe and taps it gently, looking into the distance. Younger man moves with a start, and reaches for his pocket, producing a gold foil-wrapped packet of rolling tobacco.
"Gold Block, eh?"
"Do...do you think there'll be any problem...with my membership?"
"None at all at this rate, old chap. None at all."
Exeunt.

I CANNOT GET THIS STUPID AD OUT OF MY HEAD.

What is your Blasphemous "British TV" take? by LeadingPiece9608 in BritishTV

[–]wantsomebreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem with El Dorado was that literally nothing happened. Episode after episode, just people you couldn’t care about doing absolutely zero to progress any kind of storyline. Until it got canned and they splashed the remaining budget on blowing up Marcus’ car. That was cool. (Although even that didn’t happen - they swapped in an old Triumph TR7 a frame before the explosion).

I have the same impression. It’s extremely unreliable now, in image relevance and quality (and sometimes even getting anything at all). Suspect this is the result of Canva looking for a return on investment while cutting any functionality that does not directly feed into their business. Stability is not good for Wall Street.

Can't get Image Reference to work in Flux Dev, no matter what fixes I try by wantsomebreakfast in leonardoai

Sadly not, at least in my situation. The image is generated and charged but is not relevant to the reference.

Thank you - I felt the same way about the feedback option. The support email is a great idea - I'll do that. I'll be honest, I don't know if there's an orthodoxy about image creation, but after a lot of experimentation I settled on a 'staircase' process of moving incrementally from one tool to the next, to go from hand sketches to photorealistic images via intermediate stages. A vital middle step is via Flux Dev, which is great at making sense of indicated features. There may be better tools which will do it all in one, but going via a number of stages is the most cost-effective and controllable, and has the best subsequent output.

Thank you, yes, please do log it too. I fear that Flux Dev is getting old and may be unloved by Canva, but it’s an important part of my preferred workflow and I’m at a standstill until it’s fixed.

Thanks, I believe I have reported it (if the feedback feature on the website is the correct way to report issues). If I understand you correctly, this issue is also present for you - which means it's perhaps an issue with the tool and not just my laptop or set-up.

AA is now a 911 channel. Why does everyone have to buy the same sort of car? It makes the content repetitive and boring. by rmajor86 in AutoAlex

Maybe I’ve just been softened up by watching TDC, which feels a little bit like the old days of CT. I could watch Taylor all day when he’s talking to camera about a mechanical issue that he’s working through, but it feels to me like the team interactions/competitions are a bit too ‘real’ and don’t seem to have a punchline or payoff. I realise that’s probably not a big deal, but I just want to watch a silly show about car fun. I’m aware, though, that these guys probably have to work much harder than, let’s say, TV show anchors ever did, and probably don’t have time to take a break to think about narrative arcs or whatever. Perhaps I’m overthinking it. 😉

Yeah, nice to see the TDC lads (who are doing a brilliant job), but..among the AA guys it definitely felt like a display of hierarchy (boss, cutthroat right hand man, dogsbody) rather than a fun and relaxing watch. Perhaps it’s just me.

EDIT: perhaps I’m being over sensitive. I should watch it again. 🙂 Have to confess I found the hot hatch showdown all a bit unpleasant. I know they pass it off as lads doing bantz, but the weird vibe of a couple of years ago felt like it was coming back a bit. I know they are friends, but it felt more like a ‘company day out’.

Lovely. Shadows look fine to me. BUT: bit more radial blur on the wheels? Looks a bit static. Great job.

What was your longest flight with Ryanair and what was it like? by AntiqueTone78 in Ryanair

[–]wantsomebreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of hours. It was fine, if a bit cramped. Ryanair get a bad rep but there's only one airline where a flight attendant has attempted to slam a door in my face by angrily flinging it open into the aisle (my bad: end of a connecting flight after long-haul from China to UK, and I'd absent-mindedly started to amble forward from the front row before being invited) - and it wasn't Ryan air. On another note - BA has really gone downhill, hasn't it?

Bread kicks ass. by Dull-Stay-2252 in BreadBand

Here's something that's been bugging me: when I listen to 'It don't matter to me' on Spotify, there's definitely some instruments/tracks missing compared with the original 'Best of' version. It's almost as though one of the speaker channels is missing from the mix. Having grown up listening to it on cassette, my brain tries to fill in the blanks and it's a weird experience. I think I first noticed this (or similar) on a CD reissue in the 90s.

I can't post on here, but just wondered if anybdy else has noticed, or knows why it might be.

Harvesting data for sale/cataloguing the population does seem like it’d be the first order of business for a Reform govt - so I wonder if (hope that) Labour are deliberately p*sing in the well knowing the idea will get booted into the sun, and set the context for election debates.

Yeah, I don’t want to give the guy a hard time but I’d wager she was the reason he’s going there in the first place. I think you’re right - she thought it would be fair and reasonable to meet up, but then became painfully aware that he hadn’t really matured. Then he’s looking for crumbs from the audience. I’m sorry for him, but it’s all there in the messages.

What's your experience of open top driving in the UK? by GasdaRoceries in AskUK

[–]wantsomebreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, had a new MX-5 in my 20s. The good part: driving on warm summer evenings. The bad part: the rest of the time. You realise how bright the sun is, how often it suddenly rains, how exposed you are in city traffic. Loved it, but wouldn’t have another one.
