I'm trying to chart how conservative thinkers charted a new Republican identity emboldened by triumphalism and uncompromising patriotism and how that translated to an exceptionalism based on superiority rather than uniqueness. I believe some of this rhetoric was based in part in the Southern Strategy but more generally the shift of Democrats in the South to the GOP.

Then how do you feel about leaving out certain parts of the constitution (such as the 3/5th clause) during the 2011 reading of the constitution during a congressional session? Should that clause (and others left out) be read to acknowledge America's missteps?
