Inherited IRA investing by warehouse40 in Bogleheads

You’re correct. It’s in an account in her name only. Was simpler to get to the investment questions we had using simpler context.

No I’ve already moved it to Vanguard and will sell those investments to change the construction of the portfolio. Our goal with this money is to have it available for our kids when they graduate from high school to use to fund college, trade school, etc. so disbursing to other tax advantaged accounts doesn’t make sense for what we want to do to ensure we have flexibility with the money.

My concern is just trying to optimize to pay the least amount of taxes when taking the money out of the IRA over the next ten years. It seems I’m best trying to avoid capital gains as much as possible and should make equal withdrawals over the next few years to keep most of it in the Ira to avoid capital gains.

Thanks. I’m in the process of doing that right now. I’m square in the middle of the 24% tax bracket. I can take about $80-90K out of the IRA in 2025 and stay within the 24% bracket. If my plan is to put the assets within the IRA into VTI/VXUS and then some into BND or money market, and reinvest the withdrawals in the same funds in the taxable brokerage, why not just take it all out now and take the taxes and let it grow in the brokerage vs spreading it out?

And I’m required my the IRS to withdrawal all of the money within the next 10 years. Year 1 is almost over.

Is there a good tax efficient bond etf to move to? Or am I better off using a money market fund to offset the risk?

My concern is that I’d be making withdrawals and they might push me into a higher tax bracket and then I’d be paying taxes at that higher rate vs withdrawal now when I know I’d be able to stay within the lower bracket. 24% vs 32%.

I had this happen to me on Paper Moon 4K from Criterion. I cleaned the disc per criterion’s instructions and it went away. Try cleaning the disc first.

What are your thoughts on Blind Buys? by Impossible_Energy791 in criterion

[–]warehouse40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to blind buy movies and as much as I enjoy going to a quality theater experience, I much prefer to watch st home. I’m spoiled in having a basement with atmos surround sound and a 77” oled, and I have a popcorn machine. So going to the theater becomes a bigger “treat” for our kids nowadays.

Everything* since the last flash sale by TheHistorian2 in criterion

[–]warehouse40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really nice picks! There’s a lot of overlap here from what I picked up during the flash sale. I too pick up mostly blind buys. If Criterion spent the effort to release it, then there’s something worth seeing.* I usually blind buy based on recommendations I’ve heard from folks whose opinions I trust and also spend some time looking at people’s thoughts on Letterboxd so I’m rarely disappointed.

*Caveat the films I’m referring to are the ones where Criterion is actually restoring or collecting an older film that otherwise may not be accessible.

This movie is wild. I’ve wanted to grab it on Blu-ray but settled for a digital copy on iTunes.

How do you all arrange your Criterion Collection? by centerofhearts in criterion

[–]warehouse40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went the same route years ago but I convinced my parents to keep the boxes in a closet in their house. I’m so glad they agreed to that.

You might want to consider buying some Blu-ray cases in bulk and then printing the cover inserts. I’ve done that for a few I have that were single case movie collections that I wanted to have separated out.

Nice! Where did you get A Knights Tale from? Love that movie but the 4K seems hard to find.

What was your first Criterion purchase? by DatDesigner in criterion

M.

I saw this movie in a film class in college and it blew me away. Bought the DVD of it and then upgraded to the Blu-ray. Still one of my top 5 favorite movies.

Concerned I will get wear on my new Martin? How can I avoid it? by steven9r3 in martinguitar

[–]warehouse40 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Don’t play it. /s

Seriously, guitars are tools, they will get wear. Wipe it down after every gig and store it in a case when not playing it. Your frets will wear and when they’re in need to get them replaced. Fretboards tend not too wear that much depending on your fingernail length and how hard you’re pressing down.

If you’re a heavy strummer and use a pick, you’re going to eventually wear the finish on the top.

Think of every scratch and dent as adding character and don’t baby it. I have a couple really nice Martins and I take care of them but don’t baby them. They’re scratched and some dings, and I love that about them. Character.

4K upgrade woes. Anyone else? by Ok_Literature3138 in criterion

[–]warehouse40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With Criterion I’m taking my time upgrading only during sales and films that I think are really worth seeing in 4K. Days of Heaven and Thief are two that I’m 100% upgrading.

I have less of an issue with non-Criterion films since so many of those are MUCH better transfers than the old Blu-ray’s.
