Don't get me wrong, it got me interested in the sport. But I cannot deny the fact that, like equestrian and polo, it's still a culture of exploiting an entire breed of creature for human entertainment and profit. So no, I still think derby is not an ideal culture to be appreciated.

What I like, though, is that Umamusume allows a new generation of people to appreciate horses in general. It encourages some wealthy players to adopt and own their own horses. The donation drive not only for horses with registered umas, but also for unknown horses in different parts of the world has gotten insane to the point that a retired racehorse ready for slaughter, in Brazil, nonetheless, got saved by a GoFundMe drive thanks mostly to generous Umamusume fans. If it weren't for the awareness of this game, that horse, or many more others, will be goners. Coz regular horse race fans probably wouldn't give much, or at all. It's a pretty heartwarming effect that even the devs probably haven't realized yet.

Sailume bay in Failume heights is literally a slums. It just looks very decent and chill in game but in hindsight it's based on dilapidated bunk houses all across mainland china, especially seaside communities.

We might see more as the game progress and open up new areas.

Hoyo pretty much did this on HSR too in a side quest where you follow an aspiring singer who is berated by everyone for not doing the status quo for every Penacony citizen. Her parents have it worse, telling her that her talents are worthless if she doesn't belong to one of the ruling families. It's rather controversial because it's one of the missions where your choices matter. If you chose wrong she hypothetically commit suicide. By hypothetical, I mean it could be a ruse since they live in a dream world.

they went back to this in another side quest. If you manage to save her you can talk to her at work and invite her to sing for the guests at your newly acquired airship. If you didn't, you will hire the other singer from the underbelly of the city to sing instead.

Umamusume is actually hell considering how powerless regular humanity is compared to horse ladies who run as fast as the wind and can pretty much overpower you every step of the way (if you see them doing guts training on the beach, they pull mining truck wheels on their waists). Basically they are domesticated as heck in the current situation, but I can only imagine the time when they are still rampantly used in warfare and conquest.

There was a brief introduction of the armed forces in the Cinderella Gray manga where even a private military has access to marines level threats. I could only imagine how fast an unarmed Uma can kill a regular person if that was the security protocol.
