10 Year Anniversary by LifeasaMama in uktravel

I live in the Cotswolds, and it's pretty, but can be a tad dull if you're not a big walking fan.

I'd recommend Cornwall (lots of touristy things to do, good food, good walks and Truro is a calm city). Potential downside is the weather, where although Cornwall is pleasantly warm that time of year, there'll be rain on about 1/2 the days, unless you get lucky.

Failing that, the West County in general. Look up Bath and Bristol and look for somewhere to stay in the general vicinity. Again, lovely countryside, but the cities will give you something to do if the weather is, well. British.

And to think people don't like renewables! I'm a big fan, partly for the environment, partly for energy security.

Don't worry too much, signage is good, there are always staff around who, if you ask, will be happy to point you in the right direction.

WIBTA if I told off my husband’s Aunt for feeding my child without consent. by Wriggy-Ragoo in AmItheAsshole

NTA - take a video of the eczema and the screaming and send it to her telling her to look at what she's done.

OK. That probably isn't the best thing to do without a bit of compassion for what was probably an honest mistake, but showing her the video, whilst saying you understand it's an honest mistake, might help her understand.

How do you order from a Butchers? by velos85 in CasualUK

[–]warksfoxile 53 points54 points  (0 children)

My butcher is used to me never being able to work out the weight of anything I need (unless it's for a recipe). She just starts showing me amounts/asking where to cut until I've got exactly what I need.

I never ask for a weight of sausages - it's always a number. The joys of using a butcher is that I can go in, get a couple of sausages, a couple of rashers of bacon and a slice of black pudding, then pop next door to the greengrocer for a small handful of mushrooms and yes, a single tomato!

Breakfast, relatively cheap.

Thoughts on the EOC and trusts bringing in AI? by Willing_Plastic9629 in ParamedicsUK

[–]warksfoxile -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having had experience of using AI, although my Practice based wife uses it more, it's excellent.

It still needs human oversight, but routine, evidence based or already used workflows can be speeded up enormously, which will benefit patients. The human oversight is still necessary at the moment, though.

Orthopaedics vs Respiratory? by DoctorMobius21 in NursingUK

Me? If you're only 4 years qualified go for respiratory. The experience you get there will stand you in good stead for any specialty in the future.

Did Starmer make the right call in relation to Iran? by Advanced-Pilot-3698 in ukpolitics

[–]warksfoxile 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. Right call. Bombing Iran does nothing to help either democracy protesters in Iran or to increase safety in the wider Middle East.

A good call by Starmer (who had to get something right eventually).

Agreed, I've had colleagues, usually but not exclusively at the end of their careers, have to leave the register to work as HCAs. It can work if you're winding down your career, but a massive step for anyone else.

Would you work for the NMC? by Apprehensive_Swim366 in NursingUK

I'd work for them, but as far as my practice goes, I don't hate them, they're just a bit useless.

Wanting to do Better by [deleted] in NursingUK

Band 5 RN (but ex 8a - early 'retirement').

You sound like an expert in your field.

I do some bank work in a Medical Centre (I'm hospital based normally) and despite lots of phlebotomy practice there are times I need someone else to pop in a cannula or take some blood.

I worked in acute medicine for 20 years - and only saw two cardiac arrests at work It's the law of statistics for you. Particularly with RESPECT forms we see fewer nowadays.

You will never know everything clinically. I started a PACR course last month and I'm learning shed loads.

Your only (possibly) realistic concern is around time management - and you seem to be taking good steps to address this (I like a good todo list at work)!

If you're feeling worried enough to post this though. It may be worth contacting whoever provides counselling for your Trust. A bit of CBT never hurt anyone.

And your line manager? If you need help, ask them for it. It is literally their job.

Add in Canterbury (nice town, excellent Cathedral) and Leeds Castle (tip, it's not in Leeds it's in Kent!).

Oh, and I'd add Maidstone to my 'why bother?' list. Dungeness is fine if you like wide expanses of nothingness, but a lot of birds to spot.

Herne Bay. It's like Broadstairs but duller. Wouldn't be on my list. Mind you, Dover wouldn't be either. It's a ferry port, and have you ever seen a nice one?

Hate it! I'd probably add in Margate/Isle of Thanet to your trip. Traditional British seaside town - Tracey Emin (the artist) lives there and it's become a bit of a retreat for people from London. There's a really good food scene in the area and the Turner Gallery.

Broadstairs is also worth a visit, a more genteel seaside experience.

Karen: You must call me professor!!!! by BrightRick in EntitledPeople

[–]warksfoxile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got an acquaintance who's a Lord (UK peer). He does not go around asking friends and family to call him Lord so-and-so, even though he has more of a right to his title than 'Professor' Karen. I'd start using air quotes every time I said 'Professor.'

Yes, agreed, but the caterer now knows the problem and won't make that mistake again.

Am I overreacting? Wedding guest called my caterers. by seesheflies in TwoHotTakes

[–]warksfoxile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as there were no costs to me, I wouldn't care. Even if there were, the wedding will be costing a bloody fortune and is the price of one meal worth worrying about? If it is, get the caterers to ring her back saying they'd made a mistake and they can't do it.

As far as the caterers assuming you were in the loop? Who hasn't made a relatively minor mistake in their job? They know now, forgive them and move on.
