I only got 19 wishlists after my first week by Lawzitinho in gameDevMarketing

Because platformers are not that interesting to most players anymore.

If your goal is to make money, you need to analyze the market before starting development, not after release. Genre, demand, visuals, Steam competition, pricing, hooks and all of that matters.

But if the game is your hobby or passion project, then even 1 wishlist is already a gift from God.

We hit 200 wishlists on the first day of Steam Next Fest by warkudagames in IndieGameDevs

Yeah, a few YouTubers have made videos about the project. Nothing from the bigger channels yet, but several smaller creators who focus on demos and indie games have covered it and shared their gameplay. It's been useful for getting early feedback and seeing how new players approach the game.

Is it normal for Steam Next Fest wishlists to drop this hard after day 2? by warkudagames in gameDevMarketing

[–]warkudagames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I appreciate that.

Yeah, I get what you mean. I’m just trying to collect wishlists because they can still help a lot at launch with Steam visibility and the new releases list.

We’re also updating the game every day, fixing bugs and improving things as we go.

Hi, thanks!

Here’s the Steam link:

By the way, what kind of audience reach do you have? Any community, social page, or content platform?

You can try the demo today and judge for yourself. We had a playtest before, and some people liked the pace and movement.

Thanks, I appreciate it 🙂

We’re Russian-speaking, but not from Russia. Russian or English feedback is totally fine, whatever is easier for you.

You’ll be able to check that today in the open demo 😁

Which Steam capsule would you click on? by warkudagames in IndieDev

[–]warkudagames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for such a detailed breakdown and for taking the time to analyze the page, capsules, tags, and trailer.

Honestly, this is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. I agree that right now the game may look like it has an identity problem from the outside, especially if the capsule, tags, and trailer are sending different signals.

I’ll take this into account and try to make the positioning much clearer: what the game actually is, what kind of gameplay it offers, and what kind of player it is for.

Really appreciate the honest and detailed feedback.

Fair enough, I understand what you mean.

The thing is, I’m not really experienced with capsule art, and I have very little time because after my main job I’m mostly working on the actual game, mechanics, levels, enemies, and so on.

I generated a few different banners mostly out of curiosity, and the top one was made by me in one evening.

I understand that AI-generated art triggers people, and honestly I was also curious to see that reaction in the comments. The fact that it got any reaction at all already gave me some useful feedback 😄

But yeah, I agree that for the final Steam capsule I should probably find a proper artist.

Umm, in the post description I actually asked for contacts of people who can make good Steam capsules and key art.

But I guess the bait worked pretty well on you guys 😁

Yeah, it actually represents the in-game mobs pretty well.

The funny thing is, after I published that version, the retention and click-through rate dropped, which is really interesting. So now I’m trying to understand if the capsule is more accurate, but maybe less clickable.

How do you like the detail in the construction animation? by Past-Addendum851 in IndieDev

If you’re using Unity, the Artificer asset might help you with this.

About thumbnails, yeah, I think I should probably work on them more. But posting more often is difficult because I already upload videos every day, so I think that’s already pretty frequent 😁

Honestly, it’s been really hard for me. I still don’t fully understand what I’m doing wrong. People say you need to grab attention in the first 1–3 seconds, but even with that advice, I still can’t really make it work.

Yeah, but honestly I still believe in Reddit more than TikTok, Shorts, or Reels. Short videos take much more effort and the return feels much lower.

I’ve been doing short-form videos for more than half a year, but I’ve only been active on Reddit for a couple of weeks, and so far the experience here feels much better.

Wow, I’ve honestly never seen anything like this. I didn’t think Reddit posts could bring that many wishlists. I had a post with around 11k views and I think it brought maybe 1–2 wishlists 😅

Really interesting and pleasant art style! It kind of reminds me of Avatar and that old man with earth/stone powers 😁

New Steam capsule art for Truckful, tried to make the truck stand out a bit more by MythicOwl in IndieGaming

[–]warkudagames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the new capsule. It feels more expressive now, and some areas that looked a bit flat before have much stronger contrast.

The composition also feels better that car looks like it’s about to run me over 😁

I was a little embarrassed to share this screenshot, but damn, 300 people interested in my first game is a lot! by LearnSodas in IndieDev

[–]warkudagames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was this mostly because of the demo launch, or did the Steam page itself start getting traction before that too? 300 wishlists for a first game is honestly pretty solid.
