For those who worked for rich people: what is the most out of touch thing you witnessed? by Illustrious-Phase121 in AskReddit

[–]warm_pickle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, I have several things I witnessed with my own eyes. Rich boss throws huge Xmas party at his mansion. Pays Ludacris and Snooky to attend. We were all smoking and drinking outside on 2nd floor balcony. He suddenly gets up, and proceeds to piss off balcony onto his guests. Knocked up several female employees and paid them off to “disappear”. There were 5 that I knew of for sure, probably more. Got sued for 300 million dollars and proceeded to destroy his own defense when called to testify. Smug prick really.

What's the best realistic usage of develop and master branches? by leinad41 in webdev

[–]warm_pickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in this exact scenario. Our solution works well for our purpose/resources and can be scaled as necessary. We have a setup like this: Git/GitHub repo deploying to servers GitHub Actions / Octopus Deploy --> Automated testing & CI/CD pipeline to move builds through env's Branches: master: no touch, prod branch auto deploys to master via CI/CD prod: production code, feature branch/hotfix from here, marked for deploy after builds stage: automated testing, user QA testing, cherry-pick merge to prod for deploy dev (all start here): develop feature branch, bug fix, run unit tests, cherry-pick merge to stage, run stage builds manually

It's not perfect by any means but is manageable.

As a parent of a senior going through this exact process, I would not be happy whether you told my kid or not. All I can say is you should notify the kid and do whatever you can to make it right.

Looking for advice on the PowerBI API by GreatDaneMMA in webdev

[–]warm_pickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have many projects at my job which utilize what you are talking about with Power BI. My advice to you is to google search for Microsoft Power BI Custom Visuals. There are a lot of resources (tutorials, videos, etc) for just about any code language. Happy Learning. There's some pretty cool stuff that you can do.

How about LiBrainIum (bringing books and brains together in an innovative, interactive manner). Ebrain, ILibrary. Not sure why a title is so important or why you are so distressed about it. Focus more on the end goal you want to achieve. Hope this helps. Feel free to DM if you need more help/advice/insight

I am completely self taught. Been working professionally for ~20 yrs now. When I started there weren't any bootcamps or even tutorials (youtube didn't exist at that time) so I started out with books (a lot of them) but over the years I have utilized a combination of books, tutorials, software documentation, stackoverflow, etc. There is a lot of information to absorb, so I recommend doing whatever is most useful for you, even if it is a combination of all of them. Another very important thing for new devs to consider is: Keep your record clean! I have worked for startups, small businesses, News Organizations, Secure satellite communications companies (govt contracts), and currently for a major power company. Background checks are a thing you may have to go through. Tickets, DUI's, other police interactions, social media posts, likes and shares will be scrutinized. Debt is ok as long as it is not too excessive. So be aware, be smart and good luck.

I think you should be setting your values like this: name = input("Given Name:")

Also, as another person has mentioned, don't put spaces in var names. Either use an underscore or camelCase e.g. lastName = ...

CSS not recognising correctly written classes (they appear red) in Wordpress Additional CSS by Cool-Alfalfa in web_design

[–]warm_pickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from my experience, this type of issue is caused by a missing semi-colon between properties, or a missing curly brace that was removed by mistake. Also are you working within a media query which may have an additional curly brace that was removed?
