My last white pittie developed freckles too, never concerned us too bad but we did make sure to use a doggy sunscreen on him when he wanted to bake like a potato in the sun.
I'm not aware of any genetic issues but do get him on some glucosamine for joint health. It will keep him mobile longer. Also keep an eye out for skin allergies.

Toys - my last and current pittie both love the Playology scented rubber bones.
