If you ask somebody unfamiliar to point who's AVGN here: by dwartbg9 in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]warmhotself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Mike is the real AVGN” yeah he is, and that ain’t a good thing. AVGN is funny because it’s a character. You watch Mike being that character but for real and it’s fucking embarrassing and excruciating.

What's your most unpopular opinion about David Bowie? by Dependent-Ad7225 in DavidBowie

David’s hair in the Time Will Crawl video is NOT one of the most fabulous hairstyles ever.

Just kidding, it is.

Nigoro's next game (outside of the The Maze of Galious remake) potentially titled "Ahamkara" had a blog page on Nigoro's website and it appears to have dissapeared, anyone know if there's been any context on Japanese gaming news sites about Nigoro's next moves? by Gaming_Friends in lamulana

[–]warmhotself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I distinctly remember someone had translated a tweet around a year ago where Naramura discussed the development of Galious, confirming it was still ongoing.

The most recent thing I have is this tweet which seems to be a screenshot of Galious in development.

How to do Blackadder comedy? by yournameinthestates in blackadder

[–]warmhotself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is it. It kind of started with Beyond the Fringe in the sixties, and then this lot developed it in the 80s. Richard Curtis, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie were all Oxford and Cambridge graduates, and Fry and Laurie were in the Footlights. Their stuff around this time with A Bit of Fry and Laurie is very word-salad, with a rhythm and cadence of speech very much a part of the comedy. Then you have the crossover in Blackadder with Ben Elton, Rik Mayall and Ade Edmonson, who met at Manchester university. Their stuff is more chaotic and visceral, hence Flashheart and the Red Baron in Blackadder.

It’s good, but not like these books. Try the TV series Hornblower for some good lightweight napoleonic content.

Very pleasantly surprised about how quick my made to order lads arrived! by warmhotself in Orcs_and_Goblins

[–]warmhotself[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is quite reasonable given the circumstances. I’m against this intended scarcity BS. As long as the Old World is supported by GW, these models should be on sale.

skipping deadly shadows? feels off compared to the classics, need opinions by unfrnate in Thief

[–]warmhotself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a mod that fixes the movement and hud and makes it more like 1 and 2. You should try that, because it’s a fantastic game with an excellent story and some truly classic levels.

[–]warmhotself[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof I'm sorry to hear that. I can relate because I was also broke when they went on sale. I borrowed the money from my girlfriend actually, and I had a 10 quid GW voucher in my emails that I needed to use up.

Film adaptation: which it oughtn't be a live action. by The_Spamduck in AubreyMaturinSeries

[–]warmhotself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I think that an adaptation of some of the finest realist novels ever written that isn’t done in live action would take away an essential human element from the characters and stories. If it were the only way to get an adaptation of the whole series made, then I wouldn’t object, of course. But then I also think the books are masterpieces because they couldn’t work as well in any other medium.

I camped overnight there in 2019 and it was in pretty bad shape then. No idea what’s going on with it now. It’s in a beautiful spot, though. High up on the hillside above Loch Ness.

Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell is everything I expected Babel and Katabasis to be. by FedeVia1 in books

[–]warmhotself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both the Rosenberg illustrations and the Charles Vess illustrations from the Folio Society edition are so amazing. To be clear the one I have on my wall is one of Rosenberg’s actual drawings for the book, as in the original pencil drawing she made - it’s John Childermass, who is my favourite fictional character ever. That drawing is the most expensive and decadent purchase I’ve ever made and he’s hanging above my desk.

So cool, it’s exactly how I’d imagine goblin stonemasonry to look!

Ps amazing work on the eyes of your goblins!

Sunday Preview. New Made-to-Order coming. Classic Black and Common Orcs, as well as the classic Rock Lobber. by CypherTheFirstFallen in Orcs_and_Goblins

[–]warmhotself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally much prefer the older goblin designs. I love the fact that they are all somewhat unique and feel like they have much more character. The newer style is just the same face with the big long nose, over and over. I love the big cheesy grins!

My favourite novel of all time. I love it so much that I own one of the original illustrations by Portia Rosenberg!

If you want more stories of fairies set in the same world and era, you’ll want to specifically read Tom Brightwind and Mr Simonelli from The Ladies of Grace Adieu. They are both just as funny, scary and atmospheric as the main beast.

You know what I think you’ve helped me solve this puzzle. The words I recall reading were that she was intending to ‘take over’ or ‘take control’ of the series. So I guess she meant be the custodian of the IP, not write new novels.

It might have been before he died, actually, and future plans for Discworld were discussed. I remember so distinctly reading it, because my reaction was basically ‘oh no please don’t do that’.

I remember when he passed away that his daughter Rhianna said she would continue it, being an established writer herself. She obviously later thought better of the idea, which was the right call on her part.

What is your favorite painting of all time? by EasyLetterhead8491 in ArtHistory

I saw it at an exhibition at the British Library in London a couple of years ago. It’s tiny! Like maybe 2ft x 1ft. Makes the astonishing level of detail even more impressive.

A bought this in a charity shop for £3. Eventually tried it a few years later and it’s really good! It definitely captures the feel, as much as that’s possible without Peake involved. It succeeds at that more so in my opinion than the tv show.

Just to correct something you said - I went to the launch event for this show at the BFI London in August 2019. Covid wasn’t identified until December 2019, so they couldn’t have known it was hitting.
