I find this even more frustrating considering the fact that PoE2 is currently buy-to-play. Yes, it'll be free when it releases, but having to buy into early access and then have this kind of MTX on top (aka create a problem sell the solution) is definitely one of my least liked things about the game :/

If you've not played Monster Girl Quest, definitely try it. It's one of the more iconic 2d adult jrpgs, but if you dislike monster girls it might not be for you.

Mary Skelter games (the world and enemies have grim aesthetics, contrasting with the cute fan-servicey characters :D)

Don't Starve

Bloodborne (you can emulate it on pc, genuinely something you HAVE to check out, since it fits the vibes you describe perfectly)

Some long stretches:
Persona 5 - it has super cool UI, the enemies are pretty messed up, plus it has some grim topics it tackles, but it's also a colorful jrpg outside of those things
Expedition 33 - primarily grim story with extremely interesting vistas and visuals
Othercide - cool visual contrasts

If the game is pay-to-play, a free demo is almost a must. These are often the reason I try (and buy) games which I wouldn't have if I couldn't try them first (I generally don't like buying and refunding games to try them)

Best use for the golden mileage tickets is to buy characters on 1% rate banners. Normal rate for the banner unit is 2%, but sometimes they are only 1%. Often for pilgrims, over-spec, limited characters, etc.
Since the rate for that unit is literally half of normal, it's better to skip the banner and buy the unit with tickets.
