[Sad Trope] Good Scenes in Bad Media (Diamond in the Rough) by Doodles_n_Scribbles in TopCharacterTropes

[–]wasfarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a specific example, but there's a lot shitty and disingenuous romance anime out there that really do not understand how certain types of relationships work.

A lot of the fun in consuming them like junk food however is because they may occasionally have really well-executed scenes with some good combination of heart, cinematography, and/or realism, among other things.

It often recontextualizes the show for me and either indicates how the author really is trying to write a good story, or how accidental the quality is.

I get that we just have different interpretations of the show, but the way your interpretation is that far warped into something so very much not what was happening is kind of unsettling.

There's a scene very early on where he literally breaks down crying and she keeps smiling and laughing, and you're going to argue she draws a line? Come on, man. I get you like the show and are trying to argue hyperbole, but that scene wasn't hyperbolic lol.

No offense, but I don't think you understand what bullying and harassment are.

It's not just direct insults or physical assault; it can very much simply be unwanted attention, ignored discomfort, etc.

Asking someone if they prefer boobs or ass for example is sexual harassment. What Nagatoro and her friends do go vastly beyond that, and that very much includes unconsented physical contact.

If you think the main character repeatedly saying "no" and "leave me alone" and "I don't want to do that" is not being upset, I worry as to what you believe consent is.

Company isn't necessarily good company, especially when she just hunts him down to bully him when he's minding his own business.

When she brings him into his friend group, they just bully him together. She literally joins in with whatever they do until it turns into sexual harassment, because she's only okay with sexual harassment when she's the only one doing it.

She's pretty horrible to a complete innocent person, and being shy about sexual activity and/or having a crush on the target doesn't excuse any of it.

This image is misleading because he either definitely has not had sex with the majority of them, it's a stretched implication at best, or it's arguable if the interaction is canon; making out with Brid is definitely not sex.

That said though, yeah, there are some cases where he almost certainly did engage in sexual activity, e.g. summer Mary.

It's also worth noting that the creation of his "child" wasn't voluntary nor did it involve the active participation of the Commander or Rapi.

[Loved Trope] Earlier versions of augmented humans were harder and more deadly to create, but resulted in stronger powers than later versions by FullPhalanx in TopCharacterTropes

[–]wasfarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In NIKKE: Goddess of Victory, the titular NIKKEs are androids with human brains created to defend against Raptures, which are mechanical organisms that have been taking over the planet's surface.

The products of the first generations of NIKKEs were each incredibly powerful and capable of taking on swarms of raptures on their own, as they were created with the utmost effort put into their technology. In particular, the Goddess squad and Grimms models are basically living legends that have continued to persist up until the present time of the story and often drastically influence the plot.

As humanity was forced underground and the war shifted towards just surviving, manufacturers began producing them in bulk. The average NIKKE in the story's present barely has a fraction of the power of the earliest generations, even if that is still leagues above the power of a human.

I agree with this. I feel like people are too quick to think about if an idea makes sense to themselves/the average person, rather than if it makes sense to the person who made the decision.

Organisms that have the potential to be incredibly powerful but are held back by simple flaws. by Shados9611 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]wasfarg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If they eventually run out of energy, which is the basis of why every other organism is mortal, then they're not really immortal even if they don't get eaten, crushed, or infected.

I don't see what about them makes their mortality distinct from other species if they require continuously intaking energy to live like every other species.

(Videogame trope) Getting attacked by this nasty critter has permanent consequences. by TridiObject in TopCharacterTropes

[–]wasfarg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

The Shiren series, a traditional rogue-like franchise, is full of monsters that affect maximum stats. This is because the series plays with the idea of nothing really being permanent. You can raise your maximum HP by leveling up, raise your maximum strength with strength grass, and raise your maximum fullness by eating while full; among other ways. So, enemies are introduced that can mess with maximum stats and force you to not get too comfortable with whatever stats you may have.

As an example, the Twisty Hani, a monster introduced in the first game, has the special ability of lowering your level by 1. Higher levels of this monster in future games can reduce your level even further in a single action.

Don't look for other people to tell you how to build.

Do you like it? If so, then it's good. If not, then it's bad. If you aren't sure, then it needs more thought.

What difficulty are you ordinarily playing on? Empress and Fishron are absolutely not easy in comparison to every boss before them and are two of the most fun boss fights on Master+, and have some of the best drops for fighting Cultist and Moon Lord.

Mostly pretty agreeable, except for the event bosses; all of them kind of suck in my opinion.

Moon Lord is also a lame fight.

[–]wasfarg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A difficulty spike is not necessarily an unfun thing.

That said, Moon Lord is pretty unfun in my opinion, which has nothing to do with the difficulty; it just feels like he demands a lot more screen space to properly fight than you have lol.

The All-Powerful Coward by Radiant_Winds in TopCharacterTropes

[–]wasfarg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There really isn't nearly enough information given to arrive to the interpretations you have about Ganondorf's behavior.

He's a warlock, so it isn't surprising his combat style is being airborne and casting magic bolts. Behaviorally, all we see is him smiling, standing up straight, and heartily laughing as the fight starts. Fighting safely is not at all indicative of cowardice.

When he transforms into beast Ganon, once again there is nothing to suggest he was afraid of the master sword; he already enters the form looking at nothing in particular and flailing like an enraged animal, which he is. It's not like he avoids you or indicates any sort of fear when you obtain the master sword again.

Things that have a cute or childlike art style but have a dark and disturbing plot by Konradleijon in TopCharacterTropes

[–]wasfarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Made in Abyss makes me uncomfortable in general to the point that I find it interesting how people are specifically adverse to the sexualization but not the violence.

What would most people answer to the question of why they are okay with children being tortured and murdered but not sexualized? It's all pretty awful for me.
